I seem to remember hearing / reading / seeing something that claimed about 75% of the world's CCTV cameras are in the UK. If true that is, at best, a little bizarre to say the least.

250,000 in Greater Londres alone.

Does it make it any safer? I'm not against them full stop but it's about time serious controls were imposed and some started coming down imo.

It is true, but it's mostly private/small business cameras.

They aren't really a privacy issue (unless they are linked of course - although there is a greater and greater tendency to do that in shops and businesses), compared to the already linked town center/road monitoring networks.

All public sector workers will pay 20% basic rate tax whether they be nurses, managers or research fellows - teachers, nhs docs, social service workers....It will be named the contributors tax. Scrap all vat apart from on fuel and cars. People with second cars and houses will be walloped with mega tax at point of purchase till they learn to fuck off.

Banks won't be bailed out and The Bank of England will return to backing the pound with gold and at the correct moment all denominations above£20 will have gold on them to the value of £20.

A form of National service to be put in place. Where the youth of Britain would be put to work for services which benefit from Parky's Contributor tax.

England has gawn mad.

It's a politicians/anti-speed fascists wet dream.

Although if it did cut out speeding revenue that would worry the politicians (but they'd still have their tracking and toll revenue of course), and it would IFO probably increase the likelihood of serious head-on overtaking type crashes (and probably wouldn't do much to increase safety anyway - it's inappropriate speed, inattention and idoicy that is at fault in most crashes - Fop knows of one place where several people have been killed (in cars bring driven by idiots and unfortunate buggers they crashed into and killed, the speed limit there is 60 mph, but the corner is one an sane person would only take at about 30-40mph, yet some still try it at 60mph).

most accidents are caused by men aged between 17 and 23 - if they couldn't drive until they were 24 it would drop the accident rate overnight

Something like the motorbike idea wouldn't be bad, that is you wouldn't be allowed to drive a car over 999cc/or a specific BHP until you were 21+ (or 23 or 25 or 55 maybe ).

But at the end of the day an idiot in a 999cc car can still kill someone by not paying attention or going flat out in it in a stupid place (know someone that died in a 30 limit as they hit a solid stone siding, the must have been going more than 30 mph, but probably not more than 50).

that's more or less what I said - young men aged 17-23 = idiots

Aye but even people driving scooters occasionally manage to kill themselves and/or others. Anti-speed fascists would have everyone believe 0 road deaths are possible (and systems like this have that propaganda all over them), when in fact some will always occur no matter what.

Someone was telling me that the ID card will cost you £30-ish and will allow you to travel anywhere in the EU whereas passports are going to go up to nearly £80. Sort of forcing your hand if you never go outside the EU.

Don't know how true it is but I wouldn't be surprised if it was spot on.
