JawD 99
Fuck me, this has got to be the worst week in my working life. I've had to make two people redundant this week and its fucking shit. I know some people might just throw letters at you but I prefer to sit someone down and explain whats what. Its a shite process with a fucked up outcome. Laying people off who I know have houses and families to support just doesnt sit easy with me. But, its that or everyone looses their job by the end of the year. Then, yesterday I get hit with a customer going under owing me a chunk of money. Fuck me. Anyone fancy kicking me in the bollocks? Might as well get it done now while Im on a roll. Bad times all-round currently. Those are tough moments and I think we're still a year away from some kind of a recovery. I've had 3 not pay me since Nov. snakehips 0
Bummer. It depresses me enormously when folk lose their job (through no fault of their own), regardless of whether I know them or not.
Renton 22493
Drawback of being a boss I guess. I'd hate to have to do that, I'd probably bottle it and send them a text or something.
Gemmill 47213
That must be thoroughly depressing. Sorry to hear, and I hope your company gets through it all.
The Fish 11080
No idea how I'd handle it and not particularly looking forward to it, I've had to tell people off before, but it was twilight shift in an office and they were kids... so I'd hardly put it in the same league. Walliver 0
We've had people in our office made redundant and it's not nice when people in your department, who you've worked with for almost a year, are forced to leave. This week something either incredibly hilarious or astounding stupid happened - we've got pay reviews coming up this month and the daft HR girl has created a spreadsheet of everyone's pay increases (or 'increases' in some cases) and left it in a folder that anyone in the office can access. So far I only know two of us who have seen it, but as we're keeping quiet about it there's a decent chance a few more have seen it and are ready preparing their CVs. The most sickening thing I've seen is that recently two people on 15k were made redundant while we have two people in the office earning £100k and £150k. Rob W 0
JawD - there is no easy way to fire someone. Unfortunately sometimes you have to and I think the way you went about it is the only way that leaves both sides with some self respect
Tom 14021
I think the Feudal system was a bit different though Rob.
