If you want to know who Green Day's "Fathers" are listen to Stiff Little Fingers - who were 70s.

 

Again though, they are more straight up punk than the pop-punk that is around today. I still reckon the Descendents were the first truly Poppy punk band

 

As good as milo and the boys are, bands like adam & the ants or bow wow wow had that pop punk sound, although they get lumped in with the new romantics. And let's not forget the Hard Ons!

I was about to post this too. Top, top, top album. The sheer diversity on it makes this album a cut above if nothing else. Such a shame they were forced to endure a 4yr recording hiatus.

 

John Squire is one of my guitar heroes too.
