Park Life 71
My local is canny, if any of yous* are ever in my part of the world you should come and join us for a pint or two. *Apart from The Fish. And KD obviously. Pics?? Put 14 rue de Lisbonne, Paris, France into google maps, then click on street view - look for the green-fronted irish bar. This one? Meenzer 15716
Parky mate, your local of choice is Max? Our paths must have crossed many times before our eventual pub quiz encounter then. Cracking place that introduced me to the Bauernfrühstück as a wet-behind-the-ears year abroad stoodent back in the hazy days of 1999. The Sunday breakfast buffet is a lazybones' delight too. And that Thai supermarket on the corner next to it isn't half bad either. OK, I'll stop now. Also: Who ate all the pies? Pretty much anyone here - the specialty dish is excellent Eww. JawD 99
Free Trade is a cracking pub, used to love going there in the summer. Not been in a while though. Used to like the Egypt cottage as well. My favourite two pubs in Newcastle both got knocked down though. The Farmers Rest and the Broken Doll. Used to love the live music in the Doll (and the Dog & Parrot to actually). Is is possible to shift a man once focussed on that Sunday buffet? I think not. Get most of me exotica from that supermarket aye. It's ridiculous that they'll serve food at 12 at night. The Broken Doll was mint and the Farmers was canny as you could get served underage as long as you behaved yourself. Egypt Cottage is shit now as well. Although probably the sadest loss of all for me was The Barley Mow.

Meenzer 15716
Shame there's not many decent boozers actually in Newcastle town centre any more btw. The pub scene is one of the things that'd help drag me back eventually. Hopefully not too many will go by the wayside in the meantime. Obviously there's some utter shite in the city centre but I've always liked the way there's a reasonably clear divide between the streets you want to avoid and those you don't. Taken over by Rob thingy who owned Po Na Na (Jacks Bar now Tokyo?) Aye Alex, the Farmers was class for underage drinking, its where I started drinking (Brown Ale when I was a kid). We used to keep ourselves tucked in the corner upstairs. Never forget sitting there with my mate and flicking a peanut off the table without thinking, it flew 10ft and landed on a table full of 20st Bikers Fuck me did I shrink

There's till a few good ones like. Newcastle Arms, The Forth (although the staff seem to be getting wanky in there), The Head of Steam, Tilley's, The Crown Posada. I like the Vineyard too. Might have missed the odd one. Plus there's a few which are alright when there's no one in The Bacchus is decent as well.

I thought Stereo was an improvement on that but still a travesty of the Barley Mow and not really my cup of char. Another one of those decent when it's empty. The Fish 10963
Really like the Forth... especially that barmaid. I still like Poppolos, the Telegraph is... all right, but other than that I struggle a bit for a decent pub.

Anyway at the club I slipped her a biscuit and about 20 min later she was snogging Chez's mate. Edited June 17, 2009 by Park Life

No wonder you like it And Parky, I heard they were actual biscuits I did see a bloke wearing skinny jeans, hair all over the shop, tight t-shirt that was revealing a bit of skinny belly, thinnest scarf you've ever seen, massive sunglasses, reading Proust, while sitting on a high-stool with one leg slung over another... all of this while it's 9ish on a friday and the palce is busy Blatantly aching for people to notice him. it was then that I gave up hope for that place ever being anything but a good idea ruined by bad people. Got a bit of time for the place though as they've made an effort with the drinks, decor etc. Which, lets be honest, 90% of Newcastle boozers don't.
