Fraizer Campbell - Red devils striker could prefer Newcastle over Hull

 

While Newcastle United have been relegated to the Championship the Tyneside club, with their legendary fan base – the last two home games of the season were sell-outs at 52,000 – and the high probability that Alan Shearer will be given the opportunity to transform the club, are still a big draw for players.

 

And reports say that sources in the North West, who are close to the talented 21-year-old, have said that Fraizer may be interested to wait awhile to see if Newcastle could come after him, following his participation in the European U21 Championships in Sweden.

 

Campbell is delaying any decision on his future until after that tournament, and he is part of the England squad, and the Huddersfield-born player replaced Theo Walcott in England’s win 2-1 against Finland in Halmstad last night.

 

Unfortunately our own Steven Taylor had to pull out of the tournament injured, probably due to the lad playing while he was injured, in an attempt to help save his home town club.

 

That decision to delay any decision on his future, is not what Hull manager Phil Brown and his chairman Paul Duffen, wanted to hear, but with Alan Shearer potentially becoming Newcastle manager, even before the end of this week, Fraizer isn’t the only Under-21 International Shearer could be pursuing.

 

And for a young striker, what better manager to help you in your development than one of the greatest strikers England has ever produced, and the greatest striker in Premier League history with 261 Premier league goals – Alan Shearer.

 

While on loan to various clubs over the last 3 seasons (see information at end of article), the 5′11″ striker has 37 goals in 77 first class club appearances. That’s nearing Shearer’s goals per game record, although not as good as Alan, who scored 379 goals in 733 first class appearances.

 

The North West source told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle today:

 

“Fraizer has heard that Newcastle United are sniffing around. And he is intrigued to see how things pan out up there.”

 

“He is well aware that there is some uncertainty at Newcastle at the moment. But he is waiting to see what the outcome of that is because this is such a crucial move in his career.”

 

Hull City are also forced to play the waiting game, and will no doubt be keen to understand what the youngster wants to do once the European U21 Championships are over.

 

But Hull may find that even though they are a Premier League team and Newcastle are not, the youngster could still plump for the Newcastle Club, and that wouldn’t be too surprising, especially if Shearer is in charge and goes after the youngster aggressively.

 

The Hull City Chairman Duffen said:

 

“We have to convince him coming to Hull City is the best thing for his career.”

 

“I believe the next step for Fraizer is to be at Hull, where he’ll get a start every week and the opportunity to score goals in the Premier League.”

 

“That’s what he needs on his CV, in my opinion.”

 

But even though the Newcastle club has been mauled through the gutter – again – over the last 3 weeks, Alan Shearer can very quickly put the Newcastle house in order – always assuming not all the rooms have burned down.

 

And simply by the remarks made by his players over the last 8 games of last season, Alan seems an inspirational manager to play for, and youngsters will be attracted to that.

 

Campbell is said to be available for around £6M.

Some information on Campbell:

 

Campbell signed for the Manchester United Academy in July 2004, and scored 14 goals in 22 starts for the Under-18s side. His excellent performances led to him playing five times for the Reserves, for whom he scored once.

 

And in the following season, he made a further 13 appearances for the Under-18s, scoring nine goals, but his major impact came for the strong Red Devils Reserve side.

 

Campbell was the Reserve team’s joint second-top scorer with nine goals (behind former Newcastle loan player Giuseppe Rossi, who scored 26 goals in 25 games), helping the team on their way to a Reserve Treble of Premier Reserve League, North/South Play-off Shield and Manchester Senior Cup.

 

Campbell was named in the squad for the FA Cup Third Round match against Burton Albion in January 2006. He scored his first goal for the club in 2006 after he had come on as a substitute for Wayne Rooney in a friendly against Macclesfield Town.

 

He has been loaned out to Royal Antwerp in 2006-2007 where he scored 21 goals in 33 appearances, and then to Hull the next season, when Hull were promoted, and he scored 15 goals in 34 appearances. Last season he was at Spurs where he scored a single goal in 10 games for the London club.

 

Fraizer has played 11 times for the England U21 side scoring 3 goals.
