wasn't this how the Shah went in the end.............

Given the way Iran operates (it is about the most intelligent totalitarian state ever know, at least in the last 15 years) it'll be more like Tienanmen Square.

Internet causing them some problems.

Although their biggest problem was rigging it so decisively for Dinnerjacket, letting it go to the second round would have likely taken the sting out of the oppositions anger. 66% was just too good to be accepted.

Twitter has really came into it's own over the past few days. Some fantastic citizen journalism going on right from the heart of the protests and they give out much more information much quicker than either the BBC or Sky do.

Iran to hold election recount

Iran's Guardian Council says it is ready to hold a recount of disputed votes in Friday's presidential poll.

Opposition candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi has contested President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election, alleging widespread fraud.

The BBC's Jon Leyne in Tehran says the council's announcement is a complete U-turn. The official results sparked three days of violent protests.

Iranian radio says seven people were killed during demonstrations on Monday.

The Guardian Council said the votes would be recounted in areas contested by opposition candidates.

Can't see that flying, given that Dinnerjacket did "amazingly" well in areas where he had little support and Mousavi had massive support.

Recounted faked votes is just............. well recounting faked votes. <_<

Possibly. :scratchchin: Still hoping for Mousavi to get in, although he's only "liberal" in an Iranian sense - and still very much of the Iranian establishment.

That shows how badly rigged it was, all the candidates have now complained, even one that was an ex-revolutionary guard commander.

If they didn't rig elections where would they be? Up to their arses in Playstations, iphones and junk food. :scratchchin:

hmmmm - wasn't it our great ally that came up with "the Axis of Evil"???

Still I guess it still shows we count for something in the world - presumably the Bad Guys in Iranian movies all speak with an English accent - just like in Hollywood
