Defining Moments

It's largely thought that the play-off defeat to sunlun in 1990 was a defining moment in our history. Had we won, and got up to the first division (with or without Swindon's betting help) there is a belief that there would have been no Magpie Group, Hall, Keegan etc etc.

Now we find ourselves in division two again. Could this be another defining moment? Had we stayed up, the huge cracks would hardly have had enough paper over them. However, we didn't stay up, so what might have happened is irrelevant.

If LardAsh does take a hit, and we are left with a new owner and no debt what-so-ever, would this relegation have been such a bad thing?

Championship with no debt, and new owner - Good or bad ??

All true.

Trouble is certain other clubs have these moments without getting relegated, and they win a trophy or two when they are on a high.

For a club with one of the biggest fanbases in the country, is this our true rung on the ladder ie relative success without being number 1, getting relegated, starting all over again

That's something I've wondered. Exactly where is our position in football? Maybe the fact we could have won some cups/titles, but froze at the worst possible time has resulted in our demise. If we had have won something, maybe we would have gone on to better things.

However, we are where we are. We have no right to be in the Prem, and the thought of having a new owner with no debt is a fairly tempting proposition.

We are where we are because we have continually bought shite.

Plus we have an uncanny nack of buying players with good reputations and systematically destroying their spirit and ability.

Newcastle don't buy poor players, they buy players who then become poor.

EDIT: Apart from Amady Faye. He was fucking shite.

We buy players just at that point in time when they've ceased to be useful, when any decent, well run club has stopped sniffing around and the only team foolish enough to meet their crazed wage demands is us.

It's impossible to say until we see who Ashley sells to, one things that's certain is that we're going nowhere under the current regime.

Frying Pan -> Fire -> Heart of the Sun ?
