Phillips became one of the countries top strikers while he was at Sunderland, rather than turning class elsewhere and opting to move there.

Our problem hasn't been buying big name players, it's been buying the wrong big name players. We should've went for Anelka instead of Owen, anyone instead of Coloccini etc. When we've had a good manager such as SBR or Keegan they've managed to fuse buying big names with success, it's just we've had complete doylums doing the wheeling and dealing for the most part <_<

Newcastle is the only city which really stands a fighting chance of attracting big players who don't already have links to the region because it's more cosmopolitan and easier on the eye. Without wanting to sound too much like a snob while Sunderland does have it's attractions it's never going to set the pulse of someone on 70-80k a week racing. It speaks volumes that a lot of Sunderland players have/still do live in Newcastle.

That's not to say Newcastle is the most amazingly attractuve city on earth, we have our fair share of players who have left because they didn't like it e.g. Jenas.

Great signing imo, the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Madrid have been linked with him in the past. As for Whitehead, bout time he left!

Zlatan Ibrahimovic signs a five-year deal with Barcelona in a deal which sees Samuel Eto'o move from Inter Milan.

This is the BBC for fucks sake.

We are apparently making a move on a striker, with rumours of Sam scouting about in Russia. So Vanger Love in the blue and white halves in the next 7 days then

Don't think he'd quite fit in with the anti-football he'll have you playing.
