Shearer to offload Toon bad boy Joey Barton

ALAN SHEARER intends to begin his clearout at Newcastle United by offloading controversial midfielder Joey Barton.

Not only would the such a move be welcomed by Toon fans, but it would slash £64,000 a week from United’s wage bill.

And it would help to improve dressing-room harmony after Barton’s late-season antics amidst the club’s relegation struggle left his fellow professionals disgusted.

The Chronicle understands that, despite a plea from Barton’s camp that he should be given his umpteenth chance to redeem himself, he has no future at Newcastle under Shearer.

Unless there is a dramatic twist in the tale, Shearer will be confirmed as Toon boss imminently, with the former England hotshot and captain champing at the bit to get on with his summer rebuilding programme.

The 26-year-old Barton has already attracted interest from Bolton Wanderers with Gary Megson keen to cough up a £2m fee for the soccer bad boy.

And Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce may also be able to find a home for Barton having put his faith in him two summers ago when he insisted Newcastle pay a £5.8m fee for the battler.

Big Sam is renowned for his work when it comes to reforming troublesome characters and may see hitching up with Barton again as unfinished business after the ex-Sunderland player was shown the door at Newcastle by Mike Ashley.

Tottenham Hotspur could also be possible suitors for Barton, with Harry Redknapp making an inquiry about the once-capped England international in August.

Barton found himself in hot water following his red card, handed out for a dreadful late tackle on Xabi Alonso, during the inept 3-0 loss at Liverpool on May 3. He then infuriated his manager Shearer by unleashing a verbal volley to stun team-mates and Toon coaching staff.

Shearer then banned Barton from the Magpies’ training ground and barred him from attending the home game with Fulham.

And Barton knows that he will be unwelcome for the first day of the training come July 1, with the Scouser not figuring in Shearer’s plans next season.

It’s understood that Barton’s stock has dipped so much at Newcastle that even training with the Academy side may be out of the question and that he faces training alone during pre-season until a move for the player is arranged.

However, Shearer and the rest of the Toon staff will hope that Barton will be history on Tyneside before July 1.

Meanwhile, Obafemi Martins will miss Nigeria’s friendly with the Republic of Ireland tonight at Craven Cottage and the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifier with Kenya on June 7.

Martins was always set to go under the knife this summer to try to cure a long-standing groin problem but hopes to be fully fit before the season starts.

.............................................

Fat Sam must be a total fucking idiot to want him!

I hope he gets him.

and we're stuck with Martins for a while longer

Made up story, they can't say anything about what Shearer will or won't do until he's agreed to stay. Until that point the journos are just guessing, there should be laws about making up stories.

AGENT - NO BIDS FOR BARTON

Posted 30/05/09 12:09

Joey Barton's agent says there is "nothing doing" on the Newcastle midfielder's future at present.

Barton appears set to leave St James Park after a bust-up with manager Alan Shearer following his dismissal in the defeat to Liverpool earlier this month.

The 26-year-old is no stranger to controversy but despite his chequered past a number of Premier League clubs have reportedly lodged an interest.

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce, the man who brought him to Tyneside in June 2007 for £5.8million, is said to be interested while Bolton and Tottenham have also been mooted as possible destinations.

"No, no, no, there's nothing doing - Joey has a three-year contract left at Newcastle," McKay emphasised.

McKay even went on to reveal that the former Manchester City youngster could end up staying with the Magpies.

"Joey has three years left on his contract at Newcastle. He doesn't want to leave."
