Mike Ashley - Statement

You lot are fucking delusional. Shearer was a brilliant player and someone who cares about the club but that's it. It's no wonder poeple take the piss out of us with the whole messiah thing.

I know what you mean, and I'm not a million miles away from your opinion, but seriously, is it worth a new manager coming in with a "clean state" philosophy to the squad ?? We need rid of these mercenaries and Shearer knows exactly what needs doing already, and we can't afford to waste a moment.

and if you point to one post who says that he is a Messiah I'll happily apologise on their behalf.

If you cannot see the position of power that Shearer is currently in, you're either blind or stupid.

Yeah, Shearer is his best bet of selling season tickets. Then he can push him out and get Strachan in a month after we get underway.....

I agree tbh

I know he's only had 8 games and all but i've seen no sign at all that he's going to be a good manager. Most of the time he just sits on his arse and lets Dowie do the work.

If we had even a remote chance of getting Martinez in, I'd be far more open to that than Shearer staying on.

Of course I can see his position of power but I seriously doubt the first thing he's doing with it is demanding an apology on behalf of the fans.

He'll be securing funds and control and no doubt sorting out a healthy pay packed.

And I never said anyone has called him the messiah but your all putting him on a massive pedestal and it's just amunition to people to like to take the piss out of us.

I'm not arguing with that at all and I hope/believe this will be what he's doing now. But he's not going to demand an appology from Ashley. Why would he want to try and back Ashley into a corner so early. He may have sugeested it though.

Dunno where all the positive feelings suddenly came from in here, but to me this reads more like Ashley putting the pressure back onto Shearer - now he's said that Shearer is who they want, its Shearer who looks bad if he turns it down due to some ridiculous conditions.

I think there have been positives in what he's said and what experienced players like Duff have said about him. But I agree on the pitch we saw very little improvement. Given what he had to work with that's not surprising though and as such I'm still very much in favour of his appointment.

To be honest it strikes me as something that Alan Shearer would have said. It wouldn't have been "right you fat bastard, get out there and grovel like a discovered adulterer"

more likely "I think the first thing is there needs to be an apology to the fans, they're the ones who've been let down."

fwiwi I think he was hamstrung by injuries and a paucity of talent in key areas and with such a short spell he couldn't turn the confidence around either.

Lads, he had EIGHT games. That's EIGHT. He had to work with a completely disheartened and shell-shocked squad whose confidence was absolutely shattered from the months (ok, years) of turmoil and bad results. That and most of the players weren't good enough. You reckon Wenger or Ferguson would have done much better in 8 games? Shearer has realised what needs to be done and he's probably told fatty exactly what he thinks. I dont care if he hasn't managed before - Keegan hadn't first time round and look what happened then. I reckon we've just got to give him a chance tbh. As long as he gets rid of players like CocaColaccini who haven't got the heart for a fight then I'll be happy with that as a start.

it's sad but true but shearer is the only man for the job now. yes he has zero experience and everything to prove but he has all of the public support and ashley knows that. shearer is the only man who can offer the club any stability right now, assuming he signs a contract. say he gives martinez the job (and he's daft enough to take it) - fans would be on his back if we're not in the top 6 by xmas. shearer will be given time to get it right. that's what the club needs right now - some continuity. also, shearer is likely to command a lot more control and respect from ashley than any other managerial appointment (despite his lack of credentials) precisely because ashley knows the fans back him to the hilt.

i don't think anyone bar sky sports and the red tops are saying he's the messaiah. but most of us recognise he's the only man out for the job in the current circumstances

with the exception of the Boro game, the way we'd been playing was awful, the CCC was an inevitibility.

I think AS had a better chance of changing gravity than keeping us up, that being said i think he did a great job of trying to bring the professionalism and respect for the club back to the dressing room. he would have been out of his depth if we'd stayed up but i think he'll do a helluva job next year. ( if he gets the chance)

Shearer is no miracle worker eh. This squad is fucking terrible, I even doubt that Hitzfeld or Fergie could have saved this club in the last 8 games of the season.

D-Day tomorrow, who knows.

EDIT: The previous posters have just said what I tried to say as well...

I think you've completely missed the point of what I was saying as I was pretty much saying exactly the same as you. He had nothing to work with so it was no surprise he couldn't turn them into world beaters. And as I said I did see other positives.

I think "Mike you could do yourself some good by issuing an appology" is more likely myself. I just don't see him making demands like that to guy who has to make things happen. Yes Shearer is in a strong position but he aint gonna get anywhere without Ashley's backing and he will know that. Shearer is a smart guy.

Maybe together they have concluded that the best chance of getting ticket sales up and injecting some goodwill into things is to treat the fans with a bit of respect and communicate with them - this perhaps being the start of it-a season of goodwill

fwiwi I think he was hamstrung by injuries and a paucity of talent in key areas and with such a short spell he couldn't turn the confidence around either.

Not to mention good old fashioned bad luck in the last two games (wrongly disallowed goal and freak own goal). How long did it take Keegan to change things round last season?

I've seen nothing on this thread (no mentions of messiahs etc) that I would regard as cringeworthy other than Sima's predictable attack on Shearer. We could win the Champion's league under Shearer and he'd still find something to criticise the man on.

SEEING Newcastle United relegated from the Premier League has been a catastrophe for us all.

Some more than others, except the vast majority of us could only shout and scream rather than sell assets and not replace them, cuntfeatures.

I fully accept that mistakes were made during this and previous seasons and I am very sorry for that.

I fully accept that mistakes were made? Not quite the same as completely conceding your conveyor belt of fuck ups though is it, fuckface?

I would like to say sorry to our magnificent supporters who have turned up in their thousands, home and away, up and down the country and who have given the team amazing backing throughout.

Magnificent supporters you have cynically manipulated and abused their amazing backing throughout, cockjockey.

And I would also say sorry to all of the Club's hard-working staff, who have gone about their jobs all year long.

The few left who you haven't sacked and have grudgingly taken a pay cut for longer hours, no insult here as I'm guessing this one. Oh alright then; fuck-knuckle.

Bringing Alan Shearer back to Newcastle United was the best decision I have made. Alan and his staff did all they could to try and keep us up in the short space of time they had.

I have realised I have to back Alan to the hilt now or I will completely lose you lot forever and oh my god that is going to cost me right pretty penny cor blimey, sorry for being such a slimy lardarse.

Talks are now ongoing between us about how we can take this Club forward again.

Please don't give up on me just yet, I might just pull a genie out of my very tight arse, you never know.
