Can't watch it but the last one of these I saw examined which said "takeover" in 50 years got the maths wrong by a factor of 10 - ie 500 years if nowt changed.

The problem with shite like this is it stifles any real debate about what is a very important subject.

Apparently a lot of it isn't true

It's scaremongering certainly, but it's also true (kind of).

It's true that pretty much all of the UKs current and future population growth comes from 1st and 2nd generation immigrants and muslims are the biggest single group of those (that's why Islam is the fastest growing religion in the UK too).

"Native" British birth rate was something like ~1.9, where as the "Islamic" British birth rate was ~4.5.

You've just got to think that they world population was only 2 billion not so long ago, it's 6 billion now, and within 50 years will be 9 billion, add to that this issue with many "native" Western population birth rates and it's hard to argue with what the UK and West will be in 50-100 years.

Of course the towering irony is that the biggest single thing that could be done to combat global warming (and in fact pretty much any environment issue you can think of) is simply for everyone to have a birth rate of >2.1 or so.

Maybe many of the things of today, will be as strange to future generations, as Neanderthals are to us now. <_<

certain things today are strange to the generations of today.... yes Fop, I'm talking about you.

Surely all of this supposition is predicated on the assumption that we're not going to change our breeding habits at all in 50 years, which is frankly ludicrous.

Neanderthals used to say that about Fop too and look at them now. <_<

Not really, it's pretty much "fact" as much things like this can be (I realise because Fop has said this everyone here has to disagree :(, but in the wider world it's hard to find anyone that does), pretty much every population expert in the world agrees (baring a comet impact or something).

It would take something massive to change it, plague, massive environment disaster or neutering 1/2 the planet.

Population dynamics are a bit like oil tankers, and not so much like dragon flies, when it comes to direction and future trends.

<_< but who gets to choose? an aptitude test to permit breeding would be just swell iyam

Usually the women.

Education (reading and writing especially), better female rights and available birth control = plummeting birth rate.

Of course getting those things to the people that need them is probably harder than just randomly neutering people. :(

Hijacked oil tankers in the cases of some countries like our own.
