Monkeys Fist 43395 Posted Friday at 01:51 Share Posted Friday at 01:51 Me and Mrs. F. have been rewatching Him and Her on iPlayer. If you’ve not seen it, get it watched.
Toonpack 10286 Posted Friday at 06:17 Share Posted Friday at 06:17 Black Doves - Slow Horses wannabe and nowhere near. The whole assasin (who was a good character) and his boyfriend soap opera was tedious filler also a senior Govt ministers wife pissing off at all hours without scruntiny, preposterous. 5/10

The final christmas scenes complete with snow in London was the last straw. Forget the preposterous nature of the plot and characters - this hasn't happened in nearly 50 years.
Gemmill 46787 Posted Friday at 12:04 Share Posted Friday at 12:04 It was decent entertainment for over the Christmas tbf. And if you think Slow Horses is realistic compared to this then I don't know what to tell you.

Both are outrageously "far fetched" but Doves was even less credible at the underpinning story level. I also didn't say it wasn't entertaining, it just wasn't great entertainment, whereas Slow Horses is great entertainment (with some brilliant performances, Oldman is terrific). spongebob toonpants 4181 Posted Friday at 14:48 Share Posted Friday at 14:48 Black Doves was trash. Wishaw was completely unconvincing, and the only reason Knightly could pull of being an cold blooded spy is because her acting range doesn't include being able to show emotion Jackal was still harmless hokum but much better acted and much more fun but the finale was just bizarre almost as if they changed everything so thet could have another season. Do we not have spoiler tags btw, just had to delete A load of plot stuff Slow Horses is a completely different ball park. Tightly plotted, great acting and fantastic dialogue

Gemmill 46787 Posted Friday at 17:51 Share Posted Friday at 17:51 I've got the Bullseye Christmas Special on. The standard of darts was fucking crap. I'm sure they were better than this on the original one.

Toonpack 10286 Posted Sunday at 14:10 Share Posted Sunday at 14:10 Carry On (no relation to Sid James and the crew)- Netflix. Complete and utter garbage, more ridiculous as the minutes drag by, even the Mrs. Whose choice it was is muttering in disbelief. Not even worthy of rating (probaby 8/10 on the Gemmill entertainment scale)
Gemmill 46787 Posted Sunday at 14:15 Share Posted Sunday at 14:15 It was obvious what you were gonna get with that film before you even turned it on. But turn it on, you did. I'm sorry that another piece of powder puff entertainment didn't meet your exacting "could this happen in real life" standards. It was fine. For what it was, and for the very clear expectations you were meant to have for it, it was fine.

Gemmill 46787 Posted Sunday at 14:57 Share Posted Sunday at 14:57 No I don't think so. Nowhere in your post does it state that your wife turned it on, Barry AbNorman.
Alex 35802 Posted Sunday at 20:48 Share Posted Sunday at 20:48 Not Top of the Pops but this might appeal to the Chart Music lot /pop-crazed youngsters. Shalamar (who I unashamedly fucking love) performing live on The Tube:

I knew and liked Shalamar, knew and liked Jody Whatley….but I didn’t know she was the lass in Shalamar I put that down to never having read Smash Hits…didn’t really read any music press till I left school and started at Gala Tech. By then I’d sort of left the top 40 stuff was starting to listen to stuff like JAMC & The Cult, then all the Def Jam stuff..you’d have had the piss ripped right out of you if you were reading SH for lyrics to pet shop boys and new order songs, even though I love them both to this day… edit: the guitar in that isn’t unlike rip it up by orange juice… Edited Sunday at 21:07 by PaddockLad

You’d never actually go into a shop and buy it. Even though it was decent and would feature some bands you liked. Also one of the few decent things about getting old is you can like any of the stuff you liked growing up. I really liked loads of disco/post disco at the time. Talking early 80s I guess. But I wouldn’t have admitted to it a few years later in the 90s. And probably didn’t really like it for a while. Especially stuff like Shalamar and all the stuff Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers did. Most of which is fucking sensational imo. But now I don’t give a fuck because I’m an uncool middle aged dad. That’s another good thing re the Chart Music podcast. I.e. it’s the absolute perfect time in my life for me to be listening to it with the attitude I have to music now where I just like stuff and don’t have any hang ups about what people might think about my taste.
