How this fight didn't get a UK station to pick it up live is quite disgusting, we get subjected to Amir Khan fighting nobodies but when an English World champion taking on the former undisputed Middleweight champion in the USA, it doesn't get a live showing. The British hope suffered the problem in training ahead of the eagerly-anticipated bout, which is to be screened live on Setanta. It will be a heartbreaking blow for Haye, who championed long and hard for the opportunity to shake up the division by taking on the best in the business. His controversial tactics in goading the Klitschko brothers into action caused a stir but, ultimately, it secured him his crack at Wladimir on June 20. An independent verification of the injury is required before a decision on the future of the fight can be confirmed and a new date fixed for the Schalke showdown. Police investigator Edilson Alves said the body of the former junior welterweight champ was discovered in his hotel room at the tourist resort, where Gatti had arrived on Friday with his Brazilian wife, Amanda, and 1-year-old son. Alves said police were investigating and it was unclear how the 37-year-old Canadian died. "It is still too early to say anything concrete, although it is all very strange," Alves said. A spokeswoman for the state public safety department said Gatti's wife and son were unhurt. "There were no bullet or stab wounds on his body, but police did find blood stains on the floor," she said. Gatti first captured the junior welterweight title in 1995, when he defeated Tracy Harris Patterson in Atlantic City. His brawling style and natural charisma made him a fan favorite. Whenever I see Khan, which isn't often, he looks the part except when the opponent sticks one on him. Then he just goes down quicker than a prossie with a £50 note. Jimbo 175 Posted July 18, 2009 Author Share Posted July 18, 2009 I can see Khan losing tonight if he isn't careful, he's moving up in weight and in class against a naturally bigger man, Khan's chin will always be a worry for him but it makes his fights more exciting for the viewer. The former welterweight boxing champion Vernon Forrest has been shot and killed during an apparent robbery in Atlanta, according to reports in the United States. Forrest, 38, may have been robbed and was shot "multiple times in the back", said a spokeswoman for the Atlanta police department. A post mortem is planned for today but currently there are no suspects, police said. "Vernon was one of the few decent people in boxing," said the boxing promoter Gary Shaw, who led tributes from across the sporting community that focused on Forrest's charity work as well as his achievements in the ring. Forrest, who lived in Atlanta, was a member of the USA team at the 1992 Olympics and was also a former WBC super welterweight champion. He beat Sugar Shane Mosley in 2002 and then reclaimed his WBC 154-pound title by beating Sergio Mora in 2008. The win over Mora was Forrest's last fight. He injured a rib while training for an April bout against Jason LeHoullier, which was cancelled as Forrest vacated his title. There were tentative plans for a title fight against Sergio Martinez, perhaps in October, according to Shaw. "He was one of the most gracious and charitable fighters in boxing and he will be missed by the entire boxing community and all of his friends at HBO," said the president of HBO Sports, Ross Greenburg. Forrest, who had a 41-3 career record with 29 knockouts, is the third prominent boxer to die this month. Arturo Gatti, who retired in 2007, was found dead on 11 July at a Brazilian resort. Gatti's wife, Amanda Rodrigues, is being held as the prime suspect. Another former champion, Alexis Arguello, was found dead on 1 July 1 at his home in Managua, Nicaragua.
