Christmas Tree 4866
Sam Cooke was in the ring after Cassius Clay beat Sonny Liston, or were you referring to watching boxing before then? Was he singing? Not quite the same as the fight last week as a singer stood in the ring and sang as the boxers minced onto the stage Can't quite imagine Tyson or Nigel Benn walking out with Elton John singing in the ring. Maybe we should start playing music after goals as well.
Meenzer 15754
Barry McGuigan's dad used to sing "Danny Boy" in the ring before his fights. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSH8Cngw47Y#t=5m43s He also sang for Ireland at Eurovision 1968, but Cliff Richard delivered the knockout blow. Maybe we should start playing music after goals as well. Yes, he spilled his guts out about what he and Clay would get up to with their groupies. Haven't boxers minced their way into the ring with music for years? The only difference is that it's live. The difference with football is the national anthems used to be piped music where the fans could sing along and it sometimes gets spoiled now with 'opera' singers drowning the crowd out on a microphone which is a bit shit. Piped music after a goal isn't really relevant to this and is an abomination reserved for the likes of that cretin on the football thread 'singing' about Mourinho and all the other knackers who never 'trudged through the eighties'. CT was too busy trudging to SJP or travelling the country with Jackie Charlton's black & white army to have noticed McGuigan's dad doing his clurb singer turn on the mic. Alex 35670
Remember Benn coming into the ring with some proper shite pop reggae when he fought Eubank the first time round. Was totally at odds with the hard man persona he was trying to put across. Hard to believe it was 25 years ago. What a fight that was.
ewerk 31238
Is it any wonder that Dave were the only idiots stupid enough to pay for this fight?

Alex 35670
The opponent was ranked in the WBA's top 10 Mind, there are hardly any professional heavyweight boxers. BoxRec only has about 1,200 registered and that bloke Flintoff beat is ranked about 350th in the world. Could you imagine a rank amateur taking up tennis for a few months and taking on the world number 350? They'd struggle to win a point.

Dr Gloom 22216
Kahn to fight Canelo Alvarez. Brave man. Should be a good fight. Will re-open massive doors in the states for him if he wins
Alex 35670
Heard about that this morning. One of the things I like about Khan is how he was prepared to go over to the States, learn his trade and he's never ducked anyone. The likes of Brook and Frampton talk about being superstars in their division but they've both fought once in the USA. Also think Khan's style is much better suited to the more cautious, focussed since he's gone over to Golden Boy. Under Freddie Roach he got involved in street fights which didn't suit his style and exposed his suspect chin.
Li3nZ 1
If there are decent odds on Khan it's worth a punt. He's got a glass jaw and cant brawl but as has been said above, he's boxing to his abilities now. Both the Algeiri and the one before that (!) he won good UD's which is his game. Alvarez is a beast but a bit one dimensional, fancy an upset!

Alex 35670
I see Joshua has gotten his crack at a world title a lot earlier than expected. But it's against Charles Martin, the IBF holder, rather than Fury or Wilder. Can't say I know a lot about his opponent like

Alex 35670
Assuming I manage to stay awake that late, I'm looking forward to Frampton v Quigg in a couple of days. Could be a cracker
Holden McGroin 6802
Yeah, I think Frampton will nick it as he has a better jaw.
Alex 35670
Yeah, I think Frampton will nick it as he has a better jaw. Think Frampton has looked absolutely top class bar that fight over in the states against that journeyman Mexican. He was floored two or three times and even though he won a unanimous decision it showed a bit of frailty. The Mexican had a big height and reach advantage and Quigg will have that too (to a lesser extent). Frampton has a short reach even for his height and while that gives him great power at that weight it might cause problems if Quigg can keep him out of range. Not sure Quigg will do that though as I think the needle pre-fight will mean they'll both be after a KO. Frampton has also fought nearly all his big fights in Belfast and, while he'll have a lot of support, it won't be the same as fighting in front of a full house at the Odyssey Arena. Think it's a pretty even fight tbh
