messi v ronaldo 08/09 stats

Messi

Ronaldo

I rate messi so much higher than I do ronaldo, he really trys to create for his team rather than just himself, and is actually likeable in the way he goes about the game, rides tackles and actually bounces straight back up unless he is actually injured

When Messi scores anywhere near 41 goals in a league season i might agree.

CRonaldo has it all. Dribbling, strength, heading ability, 2 equally brilliant feet, passing.

Edit: Just checking his stats. He has scored 20 in 24 starts (+4 subs) this season. Pretty impressive!!

:nufc:

Messi is in a different league to Cristiano when it comes to dribbling.

Messi is brilliant, but he goes the same way inside 90% of the time, not that it's easy to stop. Messi has been more spectacular than Ronaldo this season, but last season was a better one for him than Messi has had to date. Ronaldo for me on song is a better more rounded player, but he has 4 years on him.

Messi this season has better than Cristiano was last season. Not taking anything away from how good Cristiano was last season though.

Very bold statement that, and hugely contencious. Ronaldo has the added advantage of supreme strength and aerial ability over him too. It's remarkable that having missed a huge chunk of the season we're talking about him being average this season, he's been average by his standards yet still by normal peoples standards he's been brilliant. Ronaldo also is far far more to Man Utd, than Messi is to Barcelona, and if the question was posed to top coaches around the world, who would you prefer Ronaldo or Messi, in my opinion a majority would say Ronaldo.

Cronaldo is the best player in the world imo and Arsenal arguably play just as good as football as Barca.

Personally, I don't care who wins the Champions league although given our current plight of being light years (and possibly a division) away from Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal I wouldn't mind either of them winning it.

I haven't seen Arsenal dominate teams like Barca have this season for quite a number of years. The only ways I'd rate Cristiano above Messi are his physical attributes, and he can hit a ball cleaner, but Messi's shot isn't exactly timid. I don't even see a contest between the two of them as to who's better.

I coo when I watch Messi on the ball.

for me the problem with ronaldo is that he now loves himself, thinks he is the best in the world. no one is allowed to touch anymore or he spits his dummy out. over the course of this season im sure i can remember 2 times he should of been sent off, i think it was against fulham and spurs.

admittley i dont watch much spanish league but when i do i only ever watch barcelona, but i couldnt compare because i have not seen much of messi this year. I just wanted to give my opinion why I think ronaldo has been a dissapointment this year compared to last.

in a floating role, wide right or as a second striker messi is the best in his position currently. ho doesn't have ronaldo's engine, but does have far superior technique in terms of getting past people like they aren't there. ronaldo has to resort to the showboat. also because he's stocky with a low centre of gravity, he's a bugger to knock off the ball...

Apparently messi doesn't care who he's put up against, he just enjoys playing.

I don't think Cristiano is far more to Man Utd than Messi is to Barcelona. I'd say it was the opposite way round if anything.

Also IMO I'd say most would want Messi in there team.

I agree about Cristiano's strength and aerial ability, which is why I've always said physically he's superior but to me that doesn't make him a better footballer. Quite simply Messi doesn't need to that bulked up because players have to be able to get near him first. I love watching him play as he is just like a kid in the park, he takes a knock he gets straight back up. Cristiano and SAF moan about the treatment that he gets but Messi gets it a lot worse, but instead of sulking he just gets on with it. He's one of the best dribblers I've ever seen too, it's all so natural. He doesn't need to do fancy stepovers and the rest of it, he just gets past people simply due to his ability. The key with Messi is when he's running at players he has the ball under complete control to him but not to the defenders, the defenders think they have a chance of getting the ball which is why the commit themselves because they thinkt hey have a chance of getting the ball, but he just skips past them. He really is a joy to watch.

With him and Aguero Argentina have a great future ahead of them.

Messi's a potential world great but we'll have to agree to disagree. Another thing Ronaldo has which is superior is his shooting from long range, that goal against Porto summed up for me why he's easily the best player in the world, something which many people don't contest, Messi is good at passing the ball home though. The fancy stepovers may not appeal to you, but when they work the way Ronaldo does them, they are a joy to behold. Messi's technique dribble is good though, he touches the ball so much like Maradona did, touch touch touch touch and then he suckers the player in. He's an ugly cunt though, he looks like he should be making Windows 2010, in some darkenened room.

Aye. I mentioned earlier on about Cristiano's shot, although Messi's shot isn't exactly timid, he can hit a ball quite hard and a lot of his goals now are starting to come from his snapping at the ball from range.

We shouldnt be comparing Ronaldo with Messi anyway.

Messi has three years on Ronaldo. I first saw him play at 16 and you could tell then he would be the best in the world then.

I remember watching him in the WYC, was by far the best player in the tournament. Followed by one Quincy. :nufc:

You can never tell at that age you people say you can, but you can't. I remember a kid called Shaun Murray, who was supposed to going to be England's next Bobby Charlton, Tottenham signed him and bought his mam and dad a house in West Denton, but he never progressed past Portsmouth Reserves. Pele once said Rod Thomas was the best 16 year old he'd ever seen, his career highlight was Carlisle in Division 4, and he said the same with Julian Joachim. The wheels could come off for anyone at that age.

Any player Pele is asked about he says that tbf.

When he's in England George Best was the greatest player ever, when he's in Germany it's Beckanbauer, Holland - Cruyff....

Proper lick arse.

True like, imagine if someone like Kenny Dalglish or Gary Lineker was advertising erection pills, they'd be a laughing stock.

It depends what standard the kid is playing in TBH. When I saw Messi at 16 he was bossing a game against a full strength top league team not some kids tournament.

I played against Kevin Rapley (Palace, Brentford, Notts County) at School level and he was head and shoulders above, he looked a world beater. He didnt quite make it.

I also saw Nathan Tyson play as a kid and he looked amazing.

In my opionion there are certain players who can look good against it with the big boys at 16...those are the ones who are going to be special.

Rooney, Messi et al are those kind of players.

Classic example, he was absolutely world class on Champ Man 2. I have a feeling John Fleck will be one of these.

My lasses 9 year old brother is currently in the development schemes for Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Sunderland and Durham District. I take him along and the sheer class of these 9 year old kids is mind boggling. They are doing things I cant do at 26, most of them are 2 footed and can crack a ball for miles! Then you got to remind yourself that if they are lucky maybe 1% of those kids will get a game for the first team one day

Who was I chatting to about these schemes and the academy and that the other day? How ten of the eleven kids on the pitch are basically being encouraged to give up everything else to concentrate on football but they're only there so the one lad who actually has potential has other people to play with as he moves up the ranks.

Viscious business.

Think he was in the year above me at school. I used to live over there and went to school at WD high. Not that this means fuck all like. :nufc:
