A jury has heard an extraordinary account of how police officers based at Buckingham Palace allegedly spent their night shifts running gambling syndicates, dealing steroids and posing for pictures on the Queen’s throne.

Instead of being vigilant against possible intruders, Royal protection officers slept off hangovers in private Palace rooms, sold hard-core pornography and handled guns while drunk, it was claimed.

They also smuggled “uninvited and unvetted” guests into Royal garden parties where members of the Royal family were present and allowed business associates to park their cars at Buckingham and St James’s Palaces during shopping trips to London, Southwark Crown Court was told.

The allegations were made at the trial of Paul Page, a former Royal protection officer who stands accused of fraud and making threats to kill relating to a bogus property company which he allegedly ran as a front to a £3 million gambling operation.

You couldn't make it up really. :D
