Tom 14021
I want to buy one for my sisters 18th, budget up to £300.
Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
The Sony Alpha's are supposed to be very good. You could get a Nikon D60 body for around your budget, but lenses would be on top of that.
Angelus71 4
If you had a little extra cash, I'd highly recommend the Canon 450D (or the Rebel XSi as it's called over here) I've got it and I'm really impressed with it. Here's some of the shots I've taken with it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/angelus71-/ Edited April 6, 2009 by Angelus71

sammynb 3644
I don't think I can stretch my budget really Then go old skool Tom and buy her a film camera! Then test her skills and buy her a rangefinder. Great value. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Voigtlander-Bessa-T-...A1%7C240%3A1318 Something interesting. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LOMO-FISHEYE-2-CAMER...A1%7C240%3A1318 The best value and an amazing camera but probably to expensive. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hasselblad-XPan-twin...A1%7C240%3A1318
Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
Or a compact zoom. The Lumix TZ5 is a smashing little camera.

It looks a great wide angle digital rangefinder. http://panasonic.com.au/products/details.cfm?objectID=4612 Tom while looking for the Lumix above I found this, Lumix SLR which the article states is about $400US, so if you can find one it should be in your budget. I'd still go old skool but hey, I'm sad
Guest alex
Not a SLR but Leica were doing really cheap deal on their V-Lux which including a £100 cashback offer meant you could get it for just over £300. I got one but I'm not sure if the offer is still on.

Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
That second one you've highlighted Sammy isn't an slr. I've used its predecessor, the FZ18, and again its a really good camera. And in budget.

True, I was looking at one in Frankfurt a couple of weeks ago and it was 700 euro!!! I can buy one here for $825 which on current exchange is about 400 euro. You know for just 100 quid you can buy a Bessa L on ebay with the world's best value 15mm lense, the 2nd widest - least distorted mass produced lense in the world, which leaves you with over 200 quid to spend on stock and developing. And you can take pics like this with it:

Asprilla 96
Do they still sell the Nikon D40/D40x? I have a D40 and it's excellent. Less than £300 too I believe.
