Will you all just calm doon?

Is your avatar a John Lennon painting he did at school btw?

Cover of The Walls and Bridges iirc? But aye it is a painting he done as a bairn.

Yep Alex, that's the one. I hadn't realised he'd painted a Newcastle strip. Same with the Grange Hill avatar I had once. Black and White is the official colour of a football strip in the subconscious of the genius mind.

Oh yes

It's a painting of the cup final isn't it? (I know it has the date on btw but I read that somewhere too).

June 1952 it says on the top of the pic...

Without googling I don't know for sure if that was a year we won the FA cup, we did win it in the 50s though I know that much. I assume Arsenal are the other side?

Must have painted it in June. Cup final was in May I think

And aye, it was Arsenal. We won in it 51, 52 and 55. The 55 one is like watching paint dry btw. Appropriately enough. I haven't seen the other two.

Tony Cascarino, pundit for the New Football Pools on the appointment of Alan Shearer.

'Newcastle United football club never cease to amaze me in their quest to keep 52,000 fans on seats. Once again they have made a major appointment in an attempt to excite the Geordie faithful but it really is a sandcastle of a club with no foundations.

The club just seems to go for 'names` as managers purely to excite the fans but this one is a massive gamble. I think Mike Ashley has seen that the club need some excitement as the mood amongst the fans was that they were on their way down. The general feeling in football is that Newcastle were likely to collapse the way they have been run so this is seen as a quick fix to rejuvenate the club for the final run-in.

The choice of Alan Shearer is a massive gamble as he has no managerial experience and has basically been sitting on the couch for the past two years. I don`t know enough about him to comment on his tactical awareness but to expect him to tactically outthink seasoned managers is a big ask. After all, he is up against one of the most experienced managers in world football in his first game in the shape of Guus Hiddink. It will be a tough job to outwit him so I think Shearer is more likely to put out sides from now until the end of the season to throw the kitchen sink at teams.

Shearer needs to get his Newcastle side playing high up the park and really having a go at teams, I can`t see him playing 1 up front and trying to be cagey. The situation they are in is dire so he really needs to get the players and crowd up for a battle and take the game to the opposition. It`s going to be all about passion from now on.

Newcastle face a really tough run-in which I honestly can`t see them suriving as they are so poor defensively*. Alan was a forward so I can`t see him being able to turn his defence around in a short space of time as the Newcastle back four are like Dutch Cheese, holes everywhere!

The situation is drastic, the appointment is a risky one but with relegation staring them in the face, this is the last throw of the dice for Newcastle.'

*Newcastle have the best goal difference of all the clubs in the bottom 6.

Wouldn't have expected anything else from the cockney muppet - seems strange that he praised zolas recruitment as manager of his beloved hammers when zola has little more managerial experience than shearer - and as for clubs with no foundation how much are west ham in the shit financially?

I think we (the fans) have got a job on our hands persuading him to stay on.... I think it's down to him, if he wants it, it'll happen - the club aren't the decision makers here...

I hope to fuck your tongue is firmly in cheek there.

What I meant to say is that I think the club's mind is already made up - they want him as much as the fans do, they probably realise the backlash if they didn't persue him after the summer.

I think they'll approach him pushing the decision on whether to stay firmly onto Shearer's shoulders...

We won the first cup in May 1951. One year later, in May 1952, we won the second. Two years later, in 1953 we didn't win a cup. Three years later, in 1954, we didn't win a cup. FOUR years later, in 1955, we won our THIRD FA CUP! ;)

In 1984, no-one died, in 1985, no-one died, in 1986, there was that incident with the pigeon, I mean I could go on... B)

1951 - Von

1952 - Two

1953 - Fhree

I am the count who likes to count

1954 - Four

1955 - Five

Mmmmwahahahaahaaaaaa

It's not like we all can't count...:razz:

I was just stating a mathematical FACT! that within 4 years and (mebbes a couple of days) we won 3 cups. If you start counting from the cup final in 1950, then yes, it was 5 years, 5 campaigns, 5 seasons, but equally, if you count the amount of days between the cup final of 1951 and the cup final of 1955, it's only 4 years. /pedantry]

Here we go then, the Keegan attacks have been launched already!

Tight Toon may stop Al stay

ALAN SHEARER’S long-term Newcastle future is already in doubt over a lack of transfer funds.

SunSport understands Toon owner Mike Ashley has just £10million available to spend on players next season.

But with £8m potentially heading to ex-boss Kevin Keegan as part of his compensation claim, Shearer would be left with virtually nothing to play with.

And that has placed into doubt his push to become permanent Newcastle boss.

A source close to Ashley said: “The club was in a bad way when Mike bought it. He’s sorted out the financial side but it’ll take time to sort out the playing side.”
