Tom 14011
Wise was on £1.5m a year - the highest wage outside the playing staff

Actually pretty much everyone he played for bar Ruudi Dill...

Big Onion 0
Nowt serious about my comment about saving money on Wise's wages - i'm just revelling in his demise There must be some technicality you can get a dwarf on surely? Working short shifts, something like that.

Douggy B 0
This is a master stroke by Ashley. If he keeps you up and he stays on, all is forgiven If he goes down and leaves, future managers wont have the spectar of shearer hanging over them. If he keeps you up and goes...well thats up to him isnt it. Very good move to get himself out of a tight situation.
Guest alex
If it's true Wise was going in the summer perhaps he was only on a rolling contract anyway. I haven't actually heard it said he was on a 3 year deal or anything prior to today.

Guest alex
It's all dependent on us staying up - i.e. a sale of the club (potentially), Shearer staying, etc., etc. That's obviously what this is all about. A desperate last throw of the dice.

The Fish 10662
So what are the realistic expectations? How many points would guarantee safety? Who's going to be Shearer's kind of player? Will he be in charge for Chelsea? (Would you want to be?)
maggiespaws 0
Just switched the tv on and can't believe it. It's gone 12:00 so it can't be an April fool. Not read all the pages - fuckin 22 man! But here's my Great news IMO. We need osmeone to lift us and get us in the fighting spirit we need to be in to survive. At the end of the day, Shearer has nowt to lose and everything to gain. We were looking likely for going down before he took over, and it's a mammoth task to avoid that. If we don't it's not his fault. If anyone can keep us up it's him though. He wont be here next season though - he's not got the badges has he? He'll be here on a temporary basis to do a job. If he keeps us up and as part of his return, got rid of Wise; then it's job done in my eyes. The way is cleared for a seasoned manager to take us forward next season. Surely MA has learned by now you can't run a club on a shoestring. I don't expect him ever to splash the cash Roman stylee (and never have) but hell you need to spend a bit! Can we narrowly avoid the jaws of death and learn from our mistakes? or am I getting lost in my renewed optimism? ...... probably It'll be same old, same old next season probably

If he keeps you up and goes...well thats up to him isnt it. Very good move to get himself out of a tight situation. I dont see how anything gets Ashley out of the shit other than turning this club round and running it like a professional football club (one of the top 20 richest in the world) should be ran ie team sheet rather than balance sheet. It would take at least a full season for that to even look possible. What hes done here is finally realise just how much of a mess we are in, thats all. Hes realised that his investment is screwed if we go down and it needs something new because the current structure isnt working. Shearer is here for 8 games and 8 games only. Any talk of Wise going is either premature or a sign of something much bigger happening because theres no way Ash and Llambias would totally change their structure and way of working to keep Al happy for 8 games. Theres also no way that Ashley will give assurances of big money next season, they admitted the club had no money and Ash was feeling the pinch, they swear blind that their 5 year plan will work so why change it? We should take each day as it comes, each match must be met with optimism and a banging of the NUFC drum, sod next season, sod Wise, sod Ashley sod the lot of 'em. All that matters until May 25th is what happens on that pitch and hopefully, just hopefully Shearer has what it takes to pull off the required change in this club. Once thats secured then we can wonder what will happen next season, if Ashley is still here though then I dont foresee anything different to the one we've just had and as I said earlier there is no chance that both he and Shearer will be at this club together come September. Craig 6670
So he's bringing in his own people (Dowie) and manipulating the removal of the old guard (Wise). Hardly sounds like the actions of a man only intending to hang around for 6 weeks.
trophyshy 7066
As the dust settles....... Keegans great strengths were man-management and that he was genuinely a "good / nice" guy. He could really motivate people and had an eye for a player combined with his passion for Newcastle. Shearer will have the passion but is much more a very aloof man. Definately better than the stand ins, but not as excited as I was when keegan was appointed. Obviously he is not as engaging as KK but how can you be so sure he is very aloof? I think he (sensibly) maintains a certain persona on tv but reckon he's actually a bit of a joker and a man's man. I don't think he'll quite get the players expressing themselves to KK's level but he will probably inject more backbone, which is what we need for now. Wise may be going because he was going anyway or he may not be going and it may well be just typical 2+2=5 tabloid journalism. And bringing Dowie in doesn't mean it isn't short-term either. There's no way Shearer will agree to anything long-term the way things stand and there's no way Ashley will either. It's all dependent on lots of things. Guest alex
I agree a bit with Danny that its a win win for Ashley with Shearer at the helm. His appointment will increase ticket sales Even if we go down, fans will feel more positive because of Shearers involvement. There will be no horrendous crowd re-action with him in the dug out. Ashley might be a lot of things, but he is not stupid. If we go down the fans won't turn around and say "oh well, at least Shearer was involved" man

Naturally he was extremely excited when Al (his hero) answered the door. High Alan, im from such and such and Ive come to..... Its Mr Shearer, not Alan came the reply. He was gutted. He's a cunt tbh. No bad thing in a way.
