Artur Boruc set to sign to Newcastle United Exclusvie By Iain Campbell, sundaymirror.co.uk 29/03/2009

Newcastle are on the verge of a £4million summer swoop for Celtic keeper Artur Boruc.

Struggling United see the controversial Pole as a longterm replacement for Shay Given, who moved to Manchester City in January.

Boruc has been beset by problems this season and conceded a shocking goal, letting a back pass slip under his foot in last night's WorldCup3-2 qualifying defeat to Northern Ireland.

But according to senior sources in the Polish camp he'll sign for Toon in June.

TheCeltic hero was one of the players of Euro 2008, and the Magpies have been monitoring him for months - as Sunday Mirror Sport revealed in January.

Any move is likely to be reliantonNewcastle avoiding relegation, however.

Boruc's day had started badly in Belfast, with threatening graffiti being removed froma wall outside Windsor Park before kick-off.

TheCeltickeeper is a hate figure with some Belfastbased Rangers fans after a string of incidents in Old Firm games.

I've spoken to a few jocks about Boruc, one even claimed he was as good as Given. I've seen him play loads of times, seen him have the odd good game as it goes, however I would rate him as the WORST top flight keeper in Europe, he's almost comedic with some of the errors he's made, if this comes true, we just go from one piece of depressing news to the other.

Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc faces international axe after smuggling girlfriend onto team hotel

Mar 30 2009 By Neil Cameron

ARTUR BORUC'S international career is once again hanging by a thread after he was caught smuggling his girlfriend into Poland's team hotel.

Sources close to the Polish national side told Record Sportl ast night that head coach Leo Beenhakker has had enough of Celtic's Holy Goalie following this latest breach of discipline.

He is unlikely to play against San Marino in Kielce on Wednesday. And there is a good chance he will never play for his country again as long as the Dutchman is in charge.

A Polish newspaper published pictures over the weekend of Boruc and latest girlfriend Sara Mannei inside the team's base in Poznan on Thursday, which is strictly against squad rules.

Boruc was dropped by the furious Beenhakker for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Northern Ireland in Belfast.

But the 29-year-old ended up playing in the match as Arsenal's Lukasz Fabianski took ill with suspected food poisoning.

Boruc, who was linked with amove to Newcastle yesterday, went on to have a nightmare in Poland's 3-2 defeat.

His worst moment came when he missed a passback and the ball ended up in his net for the home side's third goal.

Boruc had to endure constant baiting from the crowd but coach Beenhakker insistedthis was not the reason behind the blunders.

He said: "We are talking about a goalkeeper who is very experienced. If you play for Poland and in the Champions League, I don't think you would be worried about this situation.

"If he was 20 and playing for the international team for first time maybe that might be the case but not with Artur. Let's be reasonable.

"As a manager you cannot legislate for personal mistakes and it was a very poor game.

"Northern Ireland's first goal was a present but we reacted in apositive way. Even when they got a second I was confident we could get something from the game. But the goal third killed us." While his place in the hearts of Polish fans will be secure, the legendary Beenhakker and his coaching staff are finished with a player they believe will never learn his lessons.

AND THIS <_< from a Celtic board

Just paper talk mate. If/When Artur goes in the summer there will be a glut of top clubs after him. I think Milan, Barca or Man United will be favourites.

:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

In my opinion Boruc is a completely different class from David James, hes x10 the keeper he is in my opinion

:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

fuck that i wouldn't want anyone from newcastle except maybe steven taylor

:icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:

They are not football people, they are delusional beyond comprehension, and the Taylor comment shows just how clueless they are, I don't know if it's the drink or the heroin with them I wouldn't want him on a free transfer and I genuinely mean that, but this would be as bad a signing for us as Dave Beasant was, the tragedy unfolding before our eyes shows no sign of getting any better.

however I would rate him as the WORST top flight keeper in Europe

And in other news, exaggerations went up by 1,000,000% percent last year. <_<

He said the same about Gomes about 2 months ago.

Obviously you're Irish, the pro Celtic media clearly has influenced you, could you please tell me a worse keeper, he's worse than Gomes. When Danny B justifiably mentions worst keeping performance he's ever seen as a Tottenham fan, given the fact they've had the likes of Erik Thorsvedt and Gomes, it really is saying something.

Don't forget Bobby Mimms, Kasey Keller, Neil Sullivan and Paul Robinson.

I love the way Gomes is making people eat their words now.

I couldn't see us spending 4m on another keeper. Hell, I can't see us spending 4m on another player. My guess would be his agent is trying to drum up a move to the prem, and has planted this story as a 'come and get me' ploy. He's probably feeling the sectarian heat, wants to get the hell out and fancies clamping his greedy snout on the EPL cash tit in the process.

although I don't think Harper is half the keeper Given was, he's still better than a lot of the first choice keepers in the league and would stay with us if we went down. If we have 4 million to spend than I would rather it be spent on any aspect of the team apart from the goalkeeper!

Bollocks story. If we go down I've got no doubt whatsoever Ashley will be looking for a net profit on transfers this summer window. It's a knocking bet he'll try to offset as much of the revenue loss relegation brings by further savings on the cost of running the first team. He'll shift some of the high wage/low return players which is obviously a good thing, but he'll also sell the few good players we've got left if there's interest. And we'll be lucky if we get a £4mil striker to replace Owen, Martins and Viduka never mind a 'keeper we don't need.

It's got fuck all to do with where I'm from. I'm not disputing the fact that he's shite but saying that he's the worst top flight keeper in Europe is a bold statement.

Both of Boro's keepers are pretty awful bet they'd love to take Boruc, don't get me wrong, I think Harper is much better, I just don't think Boruc is the worst by any means.

EDIT- having lived in Holland for a while I can tell you most of the keepers in the league are worse than Boruc also.

Boruc is fucking hopeless but I can see these idiots that run us spending £4m on a position where we are good in that's if they spend at all in the summer, definitely hope it's not true.

Was down to see Boruc's "performance" against NI on saturday, the man is a fucking waste of space.

At fault for at least 2 of the 3 he conceded. Just been dropped for their next qualifier too.
