Christmas Tree 4858
Journal survey asks where did it go wrong for NUFC this year?Mar 26 2009 by Paul Loraine, The Journal To take part in the survey click here NEWCASTLE United fans can have their say on the club’s relegation battle. The latest Journal survey gives long-suffering supporters the chance to say who they blame for the season – and whether they will come back to St James’s Park if Championship football is on show. United are currently sitting third from bottom in the Premier League, inside the relegation zone. The list of questions includes: ‘Do you expect NUFC to be relegated?’, ‘should NUFC appoint a new manager to preside over the relegation fight? and ‘will NUFC bounce straight back into the top flight if relegated?’. Journal editor Brian Aitken said: “The previous surveys we have done on Newcastle United have provoked a huge response and I expect this will do the same. “The club’s situation at the moment is causing a lot of anxiety and we want to build up a picture of the way fans are feeling. “This is a massive couple of months for Newcastle United – some fans will be positive and others less so – but nobody can deny the strength of feeling among the supporters. It will be interesting to find out how they are looking at the situation.” The first online football survey of this kind carried out by The Journal was in September last year. More than 3,500 supporters responded to the poll, with almost half of the fans surveyed telling owner Mike Ashley he could only redeem himself in their eyes if he sold the club. A huge number of fans – 2,492 (85.3%) - said Sunderland were better run than Newcastle and 93% (2,744) of Newcastle fans thought the club was a “laughing stock”. Almost 90% of fans said they were happy when Ashley took over the running of the club. But 68.1% of the supporters thought Newcastle were in a “worse”, or “much worse” state than when he took over. Half of the fans polled said they would prefer former chairman Freddie Shepherd to Mike Ashley. In November, there was a strong reaction to another Journal survey provoked by Ashley’s difficulty in selling the club. The Journal’s head of multimedia Matt McKenzie said: “We’ve had a great response from the fans in the past. “I know from taking part in regular web-chats with our sports writer Luke Edwards and the supporters that there are genuine fears that Newcastle could go down this year. “It would be interesting to see if fans are thinking the worst or are still quite hopeful. Hopefully we can get a big response to the survey and piece together how people are feeling.” http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=zqDP...XEC9Jp3ZA_3d_3d And you have to love this headline "Hughton keeping his fingers crossed for Stoke match" http://www.journallive.co.uk/north-east-ne...61634-23234835/ Edited March 26, 2009 by Christmas Tree
