Toonraider 0
I recently had over £300 taken from my account I'd used that particular visa card for nearly 4 years and it was due to run out at the end of this month, infact I'd already been sent my new card. I'd felt uneasy about it for awhile as I'd used it on so many sites. The annoying thing is I'd already set up a seperate account for use online only and had changed everything over, but too late, they may have had my details for awhile. Im so pissed off about it. Apparantely they took £1 as a test then two more payments adding up to over £300, at least Nationwide picked it up and I got it back. Just posted as a warning to anyone who is using a main account online like I was. The money was taken by Uk2.net or something like that!.

Yeah i felt really upset about it, though my own fault in a way I know. Couldnt possibly happen again as I will only keep a small amount of money in my other account and just put money in when I intend to buy something. Of course that means no more spur of the moment buying for me!! Good thing really
Renton 22495
Sorry to hear that, but are you sure your liable? I've had the opposite problem with Nationwide as it happens, they keep stopping my payments because they say its 'suspicious activity'. This even after I've phoned them telling them of my spending intentions (going abroad etc). Their customer service is shit.

snakehips 0
I had 2k taken off my credit card a couple of years ago. Cunts. All because some dosy twat in Barnsley typed in the wrong fucking numbers (mine) when some dude had taken some cash out in the bank. What a rigmarole it was getting it back. Anyway, Bev, group hug to make us feel better. Oops, sorry, didn't know my hand was there!!

Well I presume my card details were aquired through using the card online myself. At least I got it back. Sounds as if they have gone over the top with you though. Im amazed they picked up the theft really as I'm always using my card online, but it was the fact that £1 was taken first as a test that alerted them, plus the site was known to them. I have to fill out a declaration form now and there will be an investigation.

This even after I've phoned them telling them of my spending intentions (going abroad etc). Their customer service is shit. They're all useless. When my bank/debit card was suspended because of suspicious activity before Christmas, the Barclays call centre drone went through about ten minutes of past transactions - "have you used a betting website called Paddy Power, sir?" "did you withdraw money in Beo... Bel... Beg... Serbia last May, sir?" - even though I'd already told him that I'd checked my online banking the previous weekend and everything was fine. Then it occurred to him to ask "did you pay £1,372 to Generic Company Name two days ago, sir?" What, you mean the day before my card was suspended? Did I try to pay £1,372 to a company I've never heard of, despite knowing that I had a current account balance of less than £500? Why no, sir, I did not. Fucking idiots. Lazarus 0
Yeah - same happened to me a few years ago. Had about £450 taken from my barclays current accoutn and the 1st i knew about it was a phone call from barclays explaining that the money had been withdrawn suspiciously and that they had credited my account with the same amount. never found out who took it or anything. Isn't the passport office in Düsseldorf? They probably thought you were speaking in code. Or tongues. This was the core of the matter. If you pester hard enough they'll get one sent over from the Dorf and you can pick it up (I had it sent to the Consulate in Hamburg in the end). Well it's meant to be a service right? Cid_MCDP 0
I hold the corporate purchasing card for our little outfit. Our number was stolen back last summer. I don't really buy all that much on it, and when I do, it's at industrial supply companies and whatnot, so it all seemed very suspicious. After some checking and backtracking, it was discovered that no one had stolen my credit card, per se, the bank that managed the account (Bank of America) had been hacked and thousands of cards had been compromised. Point being, don't be too hard on yourself for buying online- it's entirely possible that none of the sites you visited were bad. Same thing over here- it started with a bunch of small transactions to iTunes, fake eBay auctions, PayPal transfers, and the like. I've since read up on the subject, seems like these card numbers get traded around by various hacker groups and that's how they can tell whether the card has been suspended or not. Once they get a couple of the small transactions to go through, they make several large ones, then delete the numbers from their list or database or whatever as they'll most likely be either cancelled or monitored after the big purchases. Fucking hackers. It's a pity my country didn't help Russia out more when the wall fell. That's where a lot of this shit seems to originate from. Apparently there's so many IT guys over there that those jobs don't pay shit, so many of these less than honorable individuals supplement their income by doing "black" work on the side. Guest Stevie
It seems to me the companies don't give a cunt, same thing happened to me and someone bought £250 worth or clothes at River Island on line, surely there's an address it goes to and yet the OB do fuck all. I think a lot of times, it isn't worth it monetarily to go after these folks. A lot of this kind of activity comes out of Eastern Europe or China. Trying to get some kind of international law enforcement/ theft recovery process going just isn't worth it to financially to these banks. Which, of course, just reinforces the behavior.
