peasepud 59
Newcastle caretaker boss Chris Hughton has warned the club's players that they are facing a tough relegation fight after losing 3-1 at home to Arsenal "I accept it's going to be a dogfight through to the end of the season," said Hughton after the Magpies dropped into the bottom three. "We are well aware of the position - we have eight games left. "We need to get enough results to stay in this division and we need to get results quickly," added Hughton. Together with coach Colin Calderwood, Hughton has been in charge of Newcastle since early February when manager Joe Kinnear was taken to hospital feeling ill and subsequently underwent a triple heart bypass operation. The exact date of Kinnear's return is unclear with either 11 or 18 April touted as possible comeback dates. Newcastle have a tough run-in with away games against Liverpool, Aston Villa and Spurs, while they also have to play relegation rivals Stoke, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough. Both on and off the pitch, Newcastle have lurched from one crisis to the next this season following the departure of Kevin Keegan early in the campaign. Following a fans' backlash over Keegan's exit, Ashley raised the possibility of selling the club, before deciding to stay on. Key striker Michael Owen has been involved in just four games this year due to an ankle injury, while Charles N'Zogbia moved to Wigan in the January transfer window after a high-profile bust-up out with Kinnear. Hughton also denied owner Mike Ashley had come to dressing room after the game to speak to the players. Whoaaaaah Chris you dont say! As for the last sentence, what the fuck is that all about? Guest Stevie
We're in an horrendous position here ye naa. The lot of em, Hughton, Kinnear and Calderwood stay if we stay up and get undeserved plaudits, and the only way they go is if we're relegated. I wish Ashley would fucking sort himself out, it might be cheap to say this, but a better manager would have this squad of players at least where West Ham are. For three years in the mid 90s SJP, was the biggest fortress in English football, one season we won 17 of 19, and the two we didn't win we should've pissed both against Tottenham and Man Utd, and we're now reduced to fucking no wins at home in fivebastard month!!! Fucking hell :(
Jimbo 175
maybe even the clueless dullard of an owner has realised this too finally.
Fop 1
Following a fans' backlash over Keegan's exit, Ashley raised the possibility of selling the club, before deciding to stay on. Is rather misleading: Following a fans' backlash over Keegan's exit, Ashley looked at selling the club for a massive profit, before trying to sell it as a less massive profit, before eventually desperately deciding to try and sell it at cost, before realising no fucker was going to buy the club even for less than he paid for it in the mess he'd made and was forced to stay on. Smooth Operator 10
Watching MOTD and Ashley's face as the goals went in against us you could visibly see the seriousness of the situation dawning on his fat face. Hope now he gets a fucking clue on how to run a football club and gets an experienced manager in til the end of the season to take charge. Team selections have totally baffled me recently and the sooner someone comes in and takes in by the scruff of the neck the better, I don't really care who tbh anymore as long as it's soneome whose had experience of a relegation battle and survived, just someone to fucking stop the rot. I'm 80% resigned to going down now though, Chelsea will beat us and the other teams we've left to play around us in the table have more heart and desire than we've shown at any point this season. Kitman 2204
I honestly think they were totally complacent about staying up (just like they were complacent about season ticket renewals). I picture Dennis Wise as Wormtongue from Lord of the Rings, cooing reassuringly in Ashley's ear as we drift down the table and the club decays. Otherwise I don't get how they could look at the crud that's been served up week after week since Keegan left and not expected to be where we are now. It's no surprise to me, and I'm sure it isn't for anybody who's followed us consistently. The only surprise is the faith shown to the current se-up which ignores all evidence to the contrary. I don't blame Hughton or Calderwood by the way, they may be decent coaches; it's the failure to replace the stopgap manager, even in the face of serious heart complaint, or to spend money in January that said to me the nitwits at the top have absolutely no clue how serious our predicament was/is. It may be dawning on them now but it's too late.
Tom 14011
Ashley deserves to see his investment destroyed based on the way he has treated it. 50'000 Match going fans deserve better...

Big Onion 0
Which means a possible CB pairing of Coloccini and Cacapa. Drogba, and later Stoke's big lads if Bassong doesn't get back in time, will have a fucking field day.

What disturbs me most is that quite honestly anyone that has played a football management game, once, ever.... should have a better idea of how to run a football club than the current muppets. You could almost see us being ran like a chav sports store if it were just Ashley in full control, but surely Wise has picked up something about football over the years? And surely at least one of Lambrusco or Ashley must have a child or niece/nephew that's once played a football management game and can advise them. This I feel is the core of the malaise. Edited March 24, 2009 by Park Life
