Massive shame Teflon Sepp seems to have avoided arrest, that said I wonder how many of those that were arrested planned on voting against him in the election.

The Swiss have now began a criminal investigation into the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids and have raided the FIFA offices and are interviewing ten people.

They've snared enough that someone will roll on Blatter. Just a matter of time I think.

Few days at the 'black site' in the forest and they will grass anyone. DOJ is serious shit baby. Yanks have taken not getting the WC badly.

The US justice department’s indictment against the Fifa officials claims that in 1996, a global sports company, which was not identified in court documents, agreed to pay $160m over 10 years to become the Brazil team’s exclusive footwear, apparel, accessories and equipment supplier. That was an apparent reference to Nike Inc, which sponsored the Brazil national team.

Nike has now said it is cooperating with authorities. In a statement, Nike said: “Like fans everywhere, we care passionately about the game and are concerned by the very serious allegations"

Ironically it's probably America's resistance to the beautiful game that puts them in a powerful position. They've the establishment and infrastructure to properly investigate the claims, and they're a big enough market to encourage members within FIFA to turn on the cronies in the hope of currying favour with a new powerbase.

If we'd done this, we'd look bitter and out of touch.

I'm hopeful we'll see the Qatar World Cup scrapped, but not expectant.

Blatter has to go though right? Surely now...

Heard his daughter on the radio this morning, apparently the world of football will only realise whats hes done for it when hes gone and hindsight will show him to be a great man.

I think she's right on that first point, only after he goes will what hes done become clear.

Depends, if some of the indicted FIFA officials roll on him, or if his opponents within FIFA gather enough momentum, then maybe. But if we've learned anything of Blatter, he's an expert politician and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he uses this to shore up support under claims that he is glad the bad apples have been removed, now begins the business of rebuilding FIFA's once proud image.

How can he possibly do it though?

This either makes him look like he has no insight/control over the people working under him, including the fifa exco or that hes complicit. Either way thats not someone who can remain in power once the shit actually hits the fan and stuff like this happens.

Something like;

"I'm relieved that this matter has been resolved and these corrupt individuals have been rooted out of our institution. Some of these men were colleagues of mine and I feel as betrayed as you all. Moving forward, this now allows FIFA to begin afresh, unburdened by the mistakes of old and able to focus on the future without these individuals ruining all the good work FIFA does."

However, more cannily worded and he'll have a different speech for his cronies

"MWUAHAHAHAHAHA"

If they have to re-run the next World Cup venue, both Russia and Qatar will bankrupt FIFA.

They wouldn't cancel Russia, but they could definitely Legalese their way out of Qatar; the death toll alone is enough to break contracts, surely?

Surely no way through this for Blatter, as Andrew inferred as the President of FIFA the buck stops with him ;) if there was systematic corruption in the ranks whether he is directly implicated or not.

I'd not be shocked though if he finds some way through this, the fact that he's still there now is testament to just how effective he is at being corrupt.

nice

I'm in the same camp as you tbh, I think he's surely got to go, if any of his opponents have any nouse they'll be able to get him gone off the back of this, provided the election is postponed, if its not he'll get re-elected.

UEFA should just sack FIFA off tbh, they've enough power/finance within the ranks to just run without them surely. Wouldn't take long for FIFA to crumble without the big clubs and no european national sides. They probably wouldn't even miss a world cup.

He did it like this:

We welcome the actions and the investigations by the US and Swiss authorities and believe that it will help to reinforce measures that FIFA has already taken to root out any wrongdoing in football.
