NUSC - Changing Direction

Recommended Posts

Th problem here is that NUSC have now flagged up an "aim" of getting a stake in the club that will again not gel with the majority of fans. Most will realise that this is pie in the sky.

Why not have the sense and come out and say we are just aiming to be the best supporters club in the country. That would have alienated no-one and increased membership.

On consideration, this is a silly move that will keep them alienated.

jesus wept.

Do you ever read anything?

Or is it purely a chance to put your own spin on things and turn everything round. The NUSC has always stated this is an aim, as for pie in the sky well 140 other clubs dont seem to think it is,

obviously they're all little non-league clubs such as....

Arsenal

Villa

Fulham

Hull

Some small time club in Manchester. B)

Stoke

Spuds

So thats seven Premiership clubs that have Supporters Trusts including the biggest club in the country.

The Spurs ST has 5K members although there are a lot of scandis involved. They were also spawned from the action group....that helped out Sugar after the Venables debacle (see any similarities?).

They quickly realised that the club involved them more, the less militant they were.

Dialogue ensued and now they due have the senior managements ear.

There has been accusations of the trust rolling over when the club stamps its feet but at least there is sensible dialogue.

So what you are saying is that the Supporters Trusts do work and that in six months we've managed to get a fifth of the members that Spurs have in 15 years?

cool

Membership fluctuates, I will be very surprised if you maintain that level of support long term, especially if your little plan doesn't progress.

And what if Sugar had stuck around? Would they still have embraced a less militant approach? Would it have been an option? Would Sugar have accepted the olive branch?

NUFC aren't Spurs.

The top man at the trust has recently stepped down but he is still on the board and is really helpful:

daniel.wynne@tottenhamtrust.com

Darren is also a top bloke:

darren.alexander@tottenhamtrust.com

Both have been involved for years with the trust and Im sure they will be willing to advise.

Who knows but one things for sure, the trust in its new form gets taken a lot more seriously than a bunch of lads spitting at sugar.

I personally think an ST is a brilliant idea and I can't agree with Christmas Tree at all (no change there then).

The way Ashley has conducted himself tells me that he wont be here for that much longer and a supporters trust puts the option at the feet of potential new owners who want to offer an olive branch to fans and get them onside. Fuck it, even if that doesn't happen it's well worth a shot.

As the person who came up with the ST idea, I have to take some credit for this

eh?

are you saying that because you used the letters ST in THST a few days ago that you take the credit for something that has been in planning for 5 months?

The NUSC could do worse than contact SSN and present a spokesman who will talk on behalf of the NUSC.

SSN love to talk to the fans during a crisis and rather than some mong outside the ground they can present the opinion of the fans.

The club will want to be best friends with the NUSC if they are presented by SSN as the official NUFC supporters club.

Things is, NUSC have to win over Newcastle Fans first, never mind Mike Ashley.

You can never please all the people, all the time.

Come on now, add a bit more to your remarks.

Why is it a brilliant idea

How much would it cost

How would you raise the cash from so few

What percentage of shares are required by law to demand a say in the way things are run, other than the power a little granny has turning up to British Gas's AGM?

Answer some hard questions before you jump to swallow the bait.

Frankly, the rate of knots I expect us to be falling down the Football League pyramid with that fat cunt in charge it wont be outside the reach of our fans to "do a York City".

Personally I don't get your problem with it. It's a brilliant idea because I think all clubs should have a supporters trust who can be there to take a seat on the board if the opportunity ever arises. Just because this opportunity isn't staring us in the face doesn't mean we shouldn't at least get prepare for it. The lack of power isn't an issue but to have a fans voice inside the club, someone who can get across our collective two penneth and report back to the fans on what is being said. There is no point discussing money at the minute as firstly, NUSC has only just announced it's to become an ST and secondly, I don't think the fans would get a seat on the board any time soon.

Mr. Ryder has a new blog post up...

NUSC in change of direction

By Lee Ryder on Mar 12, 09 08:29 AM

ONCE upon the Tyne Kevin Keegan commented that sometimes he felt that he couldn't do anything right when it came to picking his team because he had 33,000 managers sat in the stands at St James's Park who all had their own ideas on how the game should be played.

He was completely right.

The main reason St James's Park, and the fans who travel around the country following Newcastle, serve up atmospheres that most clubs would die for is down to the passion that seems to flow like council pop on Tyneside.

Tap into that passion like Keegan did, like Robson did and you can control your own destiny, if everybody is rowing the right direction.

Try to dictate to that passion like Mike Ashley has in his eventful stint in charge so far and it turns into negative, nervous and at times aggressive energy - which has clearly transferred itself on to the field of play, hence the real possibility of relegation.

I think that the current regime are learning that but they have done it the hard way and clearly they have a lot more convincing to do.

Much of the mess Ashley and Co find themselves in boils down to a lot of little petty things, but three or four gigantic things.

Obviously, losing Kevin Keegan is one.

And then backing Dennis Wise over his head is the reason there was so much outrage on Tyneside.

There seemed to be just one other alternative to replace Keegan after the mess and reluctance to get rid of Wise - Shearer.

That didn't happen as you know and instead we have a caretaker in charge who has never managed a team in his life, let alone a team on course to be relegated.

Eight days, I published an entry entitled http://www.blogonthetyne.co.uk/2009/03/are...n-the-same.html

On face value it may look like there was a lot of hysteria about it.

As far as the NUSC blog entry is concerned 4,000 people read it, 50% of the 68 people who commented felt strongly enough about it to attack it and the other 50% supported it.

Either way, I stand by every word.

NUSC's membership is 1,000 of the 50,000 people who go to home games at the moment.

And that would be an even smaller percentage of those who follow Newcastle worldwide.

They are just the facts so people can make up their own mind up.

Since publishing the entry last week, it has emerged that NUSC has had somewhat of a rethink about how Toon fans' views will be represented in the future.

It will now change to a Supporters Trust, a democratic, not-for-profit organisation of supporters, committed to strengthening the voice for supporters in the decision making process at Newcastle United

I applaud that decision and look forward to seeing how NUSC's change in direction will develop.

At no stage did I ever say I was against the NUSC, I had only had reservations about where it was going, whether responsible people were involved and what had it achieved since its formation back in September.

If a new set-up means that masses of fans can club together with ideas they see that will benefit the club, and they are then presented in a diplomatic way to the powers that be by fans with a bit of experience and who are not on a ego trip then it can only be a good thing.

Surely better than one man standing on his soapbox and putting in his own two penneth worth?

Surely it achieves more and wins more respect than a couple of ripped blankets outside St James's Park?
