The new U2 long player.

I'm quite torn.

The last two were certainly a vast improcement on Pop and Zooropa but both had a couple of tracks I thought were unlistenable along with a couple of stand out classics.

I think this one has a more consistent quality without peaks and troughs - sort of instead of 8s and 3s it has 6s + 7s if you see what I mean.

I'll definitely be going to Wembley though.

The production on this reminds of Unforgettable Fire.

I'm starting to think that I don't have that much of an appetite for new songs. For me they did as much evolving as I wanted by the time they did Achtung Baby and went too far for my tastes with Pop and Zooropa as I said. The return to more traditional U2 was welcome but in all honesty if they did a Rolling Stones and just said they were going to tour all the time with their back catlogue I'd be happy.

I've said before that Bono does do a lot of good (while looking like a cock) but the price of that is 4 or 5 years between albums which again if I'm being honest means I expect something more when they do come along.

Agree with much of that..'Achtung Baby' was a beautiful leap in the dark and then for me they kinda got bloated with silliness. For me 'Achtung Baby' was the album they could have stopped after. I am wondering if there is one big album left in them...Maybe not. Then again its taken me a week or so to start to connect to No Line. I suspect they need a 'mad' producer to scare the shit out of them in the studio and find what truth is left....if any...

Very average on a couple of listens to me. Just re treads of stuff they have done much better before. And this coming after two albums that I thought were also very weak.

I agree with NJS that I would just much rather listen to their old stuff but I would argue that the experimentation of Zooropa and Pop actually produced some of their best stuff and was the last time they were interesting. Unfortunately like many other elder statemen in music (Weller leaps to mind) they've reached their creative peak years ago and are now on cruise control.

There is supposed to be a "sister" album coming out later this year which I hope isn't just b-side like as they've been almost universally shit at "spare" tracks over the years.

I really liked Achtung Baby. Since that came out I've gone off them. I liked Zooropa (I think that was the last U2 album I acquired) but I think they're dull as dishwater these days. Nice to be reminded of The Unforgetable Fire though. I must dig that out. Love that album.

I used to think Zooropa was a cracking album, not as keen on Pop though. War was always one of my fave's as well.

Spent many a sunday in bed in the late 90's recovering with one of Zooropa, Fluke, Portishead (Dummy) or Roger Waters battering my already fragile head in :baby:

Heard the title track on All Songs Considered and it was canny.

I always like one track.

I should have included the link for anyone that wants to hear it....

Also includes live tracks from Leonard Cohen, Antony and The Johnsons and Tom Jones; and an album track from Rocco Deluca/The Burden.

I'm not a huge lover of the album I must admit, i hope it grows on me, the title track is fantastic though, the rest of it I'm finding a little underwhelming, I think it lacks the usual U2 anthemic stadium singalong tracks that they do best, I hated Zooropa on first listen but that is now one of my favourites so I'm hoping this one has the same effect.

And there is where they should have stopped, shagged each other or offended the lead singer by eating a pie!

Just for those interested it's a return to Eno as well but even he's a shadow of himself now he doesn't drink his own piss!
