Park Life 71
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle5854476.ece From The Times March 6, 2009 Bassong has been a rare positive in another gruelling season for Newcastle. Signed from Metz last summer, the 22-year-old Frenchman has been heralded as a success story for the recruitment department that is led by Dennis Wise, the executive director (football), but Bassong has credited Kevin Keegan, the former Newcastle manager, for his discovery. “I came to Newcastle because my agent knew Kevin Keegan and my agent told him he had me and that I was a good player at Metz,” he said. “Kevin had seen me play one or two times for France Under-21 and he asked my agent if I could come for a trial.” This was taken from N-O btw. I bet Lee Ryder's already printed this story though. If I bought the Ronnie I would have seen it. Cant remember if I mentioned they were lying about Bassong. Big Onion 0
The Bassong quotes are from a while ago in a Gibson interview, but I don't think they were online. Fair play to Luke Edwards for including them in this morning's piece. Goes some way to making up for the pile of arse-licking crud he put his name to the other day (the £30mil budget less KK's pay-off piece). Maybe they're getting the message that most of us aren't impressed by the recent kid-glove treatment of Llambias's interviews.
Ketsbaia 0
Is Nixon over on N-O seriously trying to claim that it was still the world of the beloved system and Bassong is talking shite?

Big Onion 0
what is the world of the beloved system? some N-O clique? It's a world where, at some vague point in the future, we'll have an endless stream of world-class talent coming through to the first team, with Joe Kinnear standing proudly on the touchline admiring his young charges. Dennis Wise will be given the freedom of the city for services to the club (key collected on his behalf by a smiling Derek Llambias), and Mike Ashley is acheiving godlike status through driving the club towards the title and the CL through his visionary ideas

Clearly there's loads of mileage in Bassong just making it up.

ChezGiven 0
I wonder where all this interference was that we've heard so much about then? If KK signed Bassong and either signed and was happy with eveyone else (on the record) then does this mean that Keegan left because of a disagreement over James fucking Milner, Xisco and Nacho? Is that it? What a waste of time if thats what it boiled down to.

Not defending the twats in charge, just interested.

I've always thought it was fallout from the Milner deal where either promised players or promised money materialising as Gonzales and Xisco - more symptoms of a breakdown in working relationships. acrossthepond 878
How about the reported Schweinsteiger deal as well as Wise and co trying to flog Barton on the last day of the season? More reputed interference.

I suspect there were a lot of things going on, Keegan was clearly pretty unhappy with a lot of things by that Chelsea game (with hindsight). LeazesMag 0
I'm waiting for the massive backlash to this blatant lie by Llambias over on N-O. They seem to be in shock at the moment though, as it's been completely ignored so far apart from one lad implying Bassong is lying and insisting it was Dennis who found him. Strange. aye. Hardly a surprise either.
Ayatollah Hermione 14094
So, what's the craic with N-O anyway? What's the reason behind them viewing Ashley and Co as half-way decent at running this football club? Or are they Ashley Agent Provocateurs? Just thick kids who don't know any better? Hadrian 0
more todo with who we didnt bring in rather than who we did imo, no matter what the budget keegan was given , he wasnt allowed control over it which would have normally been enough for keegan to tell them where to go , he dug in there for a while tho , breaking point imo came when they guy in control of the budget didnt manage to get the job done and sent us into a season with a weak squad they wanted keegan to take responsibility for . it's like they think keegan is stupid , i cant belive for one second he would have wanted to overextend the club beyond its means , he's always been ruthless as hell when it comes to putting newcastle first , should have just gave him 10-20 mill and let him have control of the wage budget . In fairness I suppose if you don't remember Keegan then maybe you wouldn't see the big deal with Keegan (but then even from a purely objective point of view losing Keegan like we did was plain stupid, and with how things have gone since is utterly indefensible).
