wykikitoon 21497
The massive positive for me will be seeing the back of the NUFC 'gravy train' mentality. Players coming for massive money knowing in advance that they'll not have to do anything to actually earn it because it's an open secret in football that the club is just an expensive joke anyway. Reminds me of the way the banks have been run at the top level-throwing money at cunts who exercise no professional discipline; and when the shit hits the fan they walk away with their pockets full while the place fucking crumbles behind them. Aye. Depressing but true Spot on IMO

Nyff 0
I can't see Duff, Butt, Geremi, Smith and the like having a future in the Premier League. I could see Xisco staying and I reckon a lot of our youths could do a job in the championship. Exactly what I was going to say. The youth team looks very promising, and if we were to go down then I really think players like Ranger and Lua-Lua would be able to help us do exceptionally well. One of the only positives I see from maybe being relegated is that the youth players may get more of a chance.
Tom 14021
The only problem is they would get snapped up by Premier League clubs an Ashley would just love that! Signed for £100k sold for £2.5m!!!!!!, what's the odds on us making the play offs?
wykikitoon 21497
You cant win a league like the Championship with youth players man, its a phyiscial league, young lads need some old heads about em, I can see Butt staying and Guthrie, possibley Nolan the rest not at all. I'm talking about players coming here because they want to play for a particular manager/a developing football team-as opposed to coming here simply to put another 20k on their weekly salary. Wrong of you to assume I'm saying strong finances and player ambition are mutually exclusive concepts too by the way. Clearly I don't say that. wykikitoon 21497
I totally know what youre saying Manc marra. IMO Nolan has come here for a challenge, hes come to get his hands dirty, sweat it out and graft. IMO He will not be on mega bucks as Fat Man wont allow it. Where as someone like Luque in the past has come here and given 10%, very similar to Ameobi, although hes an exception I suppose as hes come through the youth team. Forget this Roy of the Rovers dream of getting a young, loyal, hungry team playing sexy football under Kinnear which will storm the championship and then take on the premiership to get us back to the top. The reality is they (and their agent) will see any chance to cut corners and get straight into a premiership team and start earning the big money, and will be off . We've already shown we have no desire or ability to keep our best youngsters, and that's while we're in the premiership. If Ranger's any good next season, he'll be off to one of the premiership big boys like Wigan, Fulham or Bolton by the end of January. Reminds me of Phillips when the Mackems went down with Murray still there - holding on for his "loyalty" payment when he knew it would almost send the club to the wall. The same could be said of a few Leeds players too (probably including Viduka).

U_V 0
I'm not worried about the finances when we get relegated btw, Mike's already shown he can turn the club's finances around by: increasing the wages from £62.5m when he took over to £70m last year, and a projected £76m this year already selling off any players with a decent saleable value bar Martins (up or down, that will be fixed in the Summer) paying upto £28m more up front for players than required if we paid in instalments like most clubs do We'll be laughing all the way to the bank when we start to get in the instalments from the £8-9m for Milner and £6m for Given. Only a fool would rather have more goals, assists and saves this season than money in the bank in the future. Some of you are SO short sighted, not only do we still have THE SYSTEM (now with a manager first team coach who fits it like a glove), we've also now got THE GRID. How can we fail! Success is only a short 5 years (rolling) away.

We cant afford players on high wages sat tossing it off in the Chumpionship But that's not necessarily going to create any positives (other than, as I said, a workmanlike Championship selling club ), it's just going to ruin the quality we have got. And the situation we're in whilst unsustainable, was created by location and ambition (we can't do much about our location and our ambition is exactly the point), not hoping to be a well run Championship side (and frankly it's the Duff and Smith wages that are a bigger problem than the Owen and Viduka wages). Going back to a pre-Hall and pre-Keegan era is not likely to be a lot of fun, with no positives, even if we do get our wage budget slashed. It's basically like suggesting that knocking your house wall down is a good idea, simply because you don't like the picture that is currently hung on it/colour of the wallpaper. sammynb 3640
The same could be said of a few Leeds players too (probably including Viduka). Leeds didn't actually own Viduka, which was why he was there until the end because they weren't allowed to sell him. Kewell was the one that took them for everything by letting his contract run right down and not asking for a transfer.
sammynb 3640
Something I found out yesterday which adds to the irony of it all, the club has council approval to extend the Gallowgate end by another 8000 seats, not much point if we're playing in the championship. For those advocating relegation to clear out the shite from the club, who was the last club promoted from the championship to have survived in the premier league for longer than 3 seasons? Wigan? Everton? Blackburn? The rest seem to yo yo up and down. Look at the mackems for example. It won't fix a thing.
