New contract

My work has offered everyone in certain areas of the business an incentive to change their current contracts to include working late til 8 one night a week and one saturday in every 4 and in return pay us a total sum of £1500 after tax paid over 2 monthly installments and also we would waive our right permanently to EWA (Extended Working Allowance). This EWA is worth £1500 a year on it's own according to colleagues i know who already have normal EWA. So we'd get £750 in June and July this year to change from the end of May. All to meet business needs.

My concern is that once my place becomes a non departmental public body and has no links to the civil service any longer (in about 2 years or so) they will bring this in regardless for no financial reward at all. So i'd have to take this contract or walk and have no recompense.

Most people are dismissing it out of hand already but i personally wouldn't mind too much the late night and 1 saturday in 4, and the lumpa would mean i could take the bairn to disney land in the summer. Other thing is if i disliked it that much i could take the money in the summer and transfer/move elsewhere within the civil service whilst i still can.

So any thoughts of anyone whose had similar experience of this sort would be welcome people.

Take it then go on the permanent sick due to the male rape you suffered when walking home alone one night after the late shift. Just ring Clifford st for a crime number and if you want it too look more realistic ask camp jon to give you a love bite on the back of your neck the next time he's beasting you.

Given the current economic climate, I'd do anything to protect my job or earn more.

Precisely....

When the grim reaper of redundancy comes knocking, he's going to look favourably on those who show willing.

EDIT: no disrespect KD, but your response tipifies how stable a career in healthcare is. Unfortunately in other lines of work you just can't look it it so black and white... :icon_lol:

Agreed. I doubt many people will be expecting pay rises in the next year or two, they'll just be happy to still be in their jobs.

I would have thought a career in nursing pretty much guaranteed you'd be doing shift and weekend work KD?

Id be wary on that, Ive heard stories that once the contact centres get people on that contract then getting out becomes difficult, they refuse the transfer on the grounds of "business needs" ie they dont have enough people to cover those shifts and as you're one of those that currently do it they wont let you go.

Personally, I wouldnt sign it and would be looking to jump ship asap because once theyve transferred out of the Civil Service then you're fucked.
