he's came outa nowhere and turned alot of peoples (and i imagine clubs) heads .

never seen a youngster walk into a defensive position and perform so well , you would think he was our 10mill pound defender .

Shows up Geordie Boy Steven Taylor something rotten.

It's ok though, Taylor is still inexperienced and has been playing alongside shite for a while, that's why his progress has been hindered. Nothing to do with his lack of ability of course.

He shows up experienced International (with experience in a World Cup) player Fabricio Coloccini as well. Anything for a dig at Taylor, eh?

Rather than showing him up, Bassong compliments Collocini well. Unlike Taylor.

The only reason Collocini is not getting any stick is because he is new to the country. He looks weak and prone to the odd clanger. Agreed, that he does look better with Bassong next to him though.

I think if Collo is given this season to settle and plays alongside Bassong regularly, he'll do well for us next year. Providing he doesn't get hampered by injury or the crowd turning.

I thought Enrique looked good yesterday too.

There's no doubt he's still adapting to the physicality and speed. In the air he looks poor but when the ball is on the deck he looks assured. He's a good player, there's no doubt about that.

I think he has had a bit of stick. He lacks a bit of pace and aerial ability. The thing is though, he's a sweeper. Taylor isn't (although he seems to think covering behind the keeper is part of his remit). That's why I think the comparison with Bassong is more apt because they're both the 'marking CB' / the one whop attacks the ball more as opposed to the one who drops off more. I also think for this reason Colo compliments Bassong better than Taylor would too. I know you've rated Taylor since day one but he just isn't good enough imo. He isn't good enough in terms of any one aspect of his game - strength, pace, reading of the game, ability on the ball, aerial ability. He's just not a very good defender.

Was he one of Wise's finds?

Absolute steal. Just hope he doesnt have his head turned in the summer.

KK signing I heard. Came on a trial and KK liked the look of him. They kept it quiet he was here which is why he played in that friendly without his name on the team sheet. Guthrie was a KK signing too supposedly. The rest were down to Wise.

To be offered a new deal in the summer according to the Chronicle. Rumours abound that top clubs were sniffing around him in January.

A one year deal on less money, before being sold to Villa for £13m.

Best discovery we've made in god knows how many years and as people have said he's shown up the oft used excuse for Taylor that e's young and has been in a dodgy defence with nobody to learn from, pressure on him etc. If you're good enough you'll show it, and Bassong has done that every game.

I think if we can get and keep them all fit, that Beye-Colo-Bassong-Enrique is a very conpetent defence especially if they could be helped by having a half decent midfield in front of them so the ball doesn't keep coming at them every second!

They were bloody fantastic until Beye got crocked. Fell apart after that.
