If traffic wardens start taking photos of your car as you drive away?

I ask because I was on the first day of my placement today and parked down a side street about thirty seconds walk away from the offices. It was right next door to a pay and display car park but certainly not in any way illegally parked (There were loads of cars parked down this street and the fuckers had been milling around all day and I came back without a ticket or clamp on my car so it can't possibly have been). Anyway, I go to my car while these jobsworths are nonchalontly meandering around checking the few cars left in the P&D. I hop in, turn around and stop at the junction waiting for a space. As I look out of my window one of these daft cunts, complete with fluorescent mack and silly hat jogs halfway across the car park, whips a digital camera out and starts taking photos.

Now I axe yer, what's his game?

normally means you've a fine incoming, i'd have gotten out and asked him what he was playing at

Probably should have but I was more concerned about getting home. Since he hadn't slapped a ticket on my windscreen I assumed he was just being a tit.

I'll windmill him tomorrow if I see him.

It's usually used as proof pending a fine or prosecution, I was recently stopped for having illegal numberplates on my car and the police that took down my particulars also took my photo of me standing next to the vehicle.

No Jimbo, that was just because they needed proof how big a wanker you need to be to drive a Voyager :D

I was in my Mrs' Fiesta at the time but I did make them laugh when I offered to drape myself seductively over the bonnet of the car whilst they took the shot.

Obviously your reputation of excessive jizz is well publicised in Lowestoft.

Your missus been talking again???

No wonder they were taking pics, you're on the registrar with manc-mag now!

Back to the original question.....

Don't wardens have to put the ticket on your front windscreen for it to be legal?

Unless there are signs notifying you of cameras being used to detect parking violations the picture would be invalid to catch you for a fine.

This was certainly the case in Dipperville a few years back, it may vary from council to council though

No. Once they start the process (be it pad & pen or electronic) the fine is served. Makes no difference if you speed off before they slap it on the screen.

I could understand if they were taking photies of Ketsbaia's car if it was still parked up, but a pic of it driving off up the road doesn't prove anything does it?

You weren't in mackemland were you? Pretty sure they've been investigated for sharp practice by their parking attendants recently.

I was in Sunderland actually. I'll have a look into it if anything lands on my door mat over the next couple of days.

It was fairly bizarre as they were no where near my motor and just seemed to get snap happy as I was pulling out of the side street, so it's not as if I drove off mid-ticket. If it was parked illegally (which it wasn't :D ) then surely they'd have just slapped a ticket on my windscreen, no?

Expect a fine in the next fortnight then, they've more than likely cooked up some bullshit story that you drove away as they were issuing the ticket.

Fantastic. If I see the same duo tomorrow I may stop them and have a chat.

I'll have my dictaphone with me so if I do collar them I may get it out and record the conversation just as back up. I imagine they'll claim they were doing nothing wrong if I do see them.

This morning I asked a bloke who parked pretty much in exactly the same place I did if it was illegal to park here and he said no and that everyone does. That puts all the niggling doubts in my mind to rest.

I've sent an FOI request to Sunderland City Council as the car park and surrounding areas are covered by CCTV, my motor should be viewable from where the camera is located. If it is then I reckon i'm on pretty safe ground regarding telling them to shove their fines up their arses.

Fight the power, brother.

CCTV in marked junction boxes is going to be the new revenue camera cash cow for local authorities soon.

Come to think if it there wasn't anything like that near the junction?
