peasepud 59
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...p.html?ITO=1490 Joe Kinnear will pick up a £1million bonus if Newcastle stay in the Premier League this season, even if he does not return to the dugout again after a triple heart bypass operation. The money is part of a complex wage deal agreed since Kinnear took over the ailing club last September in a caretaker capacity. And it will be paid whether or not the 62- year-old, who has been in hospital since last Saturday after suffering heart problems, recovers in time to replace his stand-ins Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood. Kinnear was given the manager's job by owner Mike Ashley until the end of the season in November when he accepted a substantial wage cut linked with the seven-figure incentive to beat relegation, after working on a month-to-month basis on a salary believed to be about £25,000 a week. The club have indicated he will need at least two months' rest and recuperation from his surgery on Friday. Although Kinnear has pinpointed the fixture against Stoke City on April 11 as his possible comeback game, there must be doubts whether he will be back before the end of the season, if at all. Yet we're not going to waste any more cash? How will giving an incentive bonus to Joe make things go any better? What are they saying? that he wasnt going to try otherwise? Kitman 2207
That's a million we could have spent on Dean Windass. Disgusting.
OTF 7598
Seems to me they lowered the weekly wage, and stuck the 1 million bonus on there to make up for it. Of course Joe will have done his best to keep us up at whatever length, but this way he would have agreed to a lower weekly wage. Therefore if we do actually go down they will have saved themselves some money, and if we stay up they will have spent slightly more than they would have if they kept him on his original weekly wage. Seems like perfectly acceptable business to me. The fact that Kinnear is our manager in the first place is what we should really be worried about. At any length Kinnear has seemingly slotted perfectly into the NUFC way of life - getting paid immense amounts of cash while sitting out injured/sick. He saw that the other teams were catching us up in the injury league table, and therefore selflessly signed himself off for 8 weeks to ensure we stayed ahead the pack. That is the quality of the man. Albert Kirkey 0
With the amount of FA fines he's racked up, he'll need some sort of bonus on top of his minimum wage. The club will be thinking it's a bargain to give him a million pound bonus if we stay up. Football is shit these days.

Just pay him SSP see how he could manage, most of us only get SSP if we are off work, obscene amount of money and I am one who's helping to pay for it, but at least this is the last season that I will! paddock 0
putting the manager on a bonus, to keep us up, shows the ambition of Ashley.
