peasepud 59
http://www.sundaysun.co.uk/sport/newcastle...79310-22930663/ NEWCASTLE United are set to settle their legal battle with Kevin Keegan before it reaches a head-to-head confron- tation. The Magpies and their former manager are on collision course over the manner of his departure from St James’s Park last September. But with both sides keen to head off any showdown, United are expected to agree to stump up a pay-off to Keegan. Keegan is claiming £8 million from Newcastle for constructive dismissal, while the club have demanded £2 million from him for breach of contract. But reports that the two parties would lock horns in court at an industrial tribunal in early March are wrong. If the case were to remain unresolved, it would be heard behind closed doors by a three-man Premier League arbitration panel rather than in public at an industrial tribunal. But that panel has NOT been convened for early next month, or for any date in the foreseeable future. And although legal discussions between the two sides are well underway, the word is that the dispute will be settled before any formal hearing takes place. The arbitration panel will still then sit, but only to formally ratify whatever has been agreed between Keegan and United. Speaking last week, Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias said: “Effectively we can’t answer any questions on Kevin Keegan until we have made a settlement.” Meanwhile, United face disappointment if they resume their pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson this summer. The Sunday Sun was the first to reveal Newcastle’s interest in Johnson and City team-mate Nedum Onuoha, and Llambias promised that the Magpies will go after them again at the end of the season. But England Under-21 international Johnson is understood to have been so unimpressed by the last-ditch nature of Newcastle’s bid for him on transfer deadline day that he is now cold on a move to St James’s Park. Surprise surprise, I thought they said they had nothing to hide?

Zathras 296
I'd be happy with this result. A relatively inexpensive out of court settlement and the club can move on? Don't forget that in addition to whatever award the court were to give KK, the club would have to pay it's legal costs, likely in the several hundred thousands of pounds. AND, until the matter is settled, the club must keep £8 million in reserve to pay the award if it's given. This frees up most of that cash. As much as I'd like to know 'exactly' what happened, it's sort of beside the point now. Let's move on and be done with it. This is the easiest way to do that. I was actually thinking the other day the clubs PR budget must be growing by the day with the number of people they must have actually trawling and posting on toon forums. You'd think morally there should be an element of disclosure on their behalf but then I remembered it's Ashley ham fisted mob and chances are they just want to punch us in the face anyway. It's freed for whatever purpose it may be used, even if it's not what you/I/we want it to be used for, it's still £8 million less that must be held in reserve. Asprilla 96
Well either way, I'd just like to see it sorted and us move on now.
Papa Lazaru 0
Probably for the best as it won't cost the club as much as going to tribunal, and its a blatant admission by them that he's right and they're wrong, or they'd never need to settle. But i do kind of expect come the summer when we "just miss out" on some big targets that they'll say we fell short of funds by the amount KK recieved in a pay off!
