Tino asprilla 0 Posted February 23, 2009 Share Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) good result tbh, this everton side work well and to get a draw with ten men was good. would have been a win if nolan hadnt got himself sent off. s taylor was suprsingly good getting forward but of course there was no end product and he didnt have the legs to get back so we got countered with a man down catching his breath. best shola moment had to be when he headed the ball on knowing there were no men further up than him...what a donkey! With Loverkrands, Martins, Smith, and Viduka available Ameobe would be at the bottom of my pecking order. And furthermore, when you are down to 10 men for the entire 2nd half Ameobe is not the kind of player I would want on the pitch, I would want someone who would work like he knew we were down to 10 men.Hughton was Kinnearesque in his starting eleven and substitutions Of all the scoring chances on both sides the one Lovenkrands missed was the easiest, simplest, and best and perhaps would have won the game for us. ...and was created by Ameobi who shouldn't have been on the pitch. Not defending Shola's display for a second but loads of the fans are myopic when it comes to having a pop at some players at the match and actually enthusiastic when it comes to others. Exactly. I'm not actually sure what people are expecting from Ameobi, he's not going to run past people, he's not going to play on the shoulder of the last defender. He's a target man, not a fantastic one, but the only fit one we have and at the moment we don't have the players to play any other way. And he actually created the best chance of the game. There was that bit where he scuffed a cross and the def just picked the ball up and started running away with it and Shola (5 yards away) just watched. Like a Cheetah (or the legendary Zarian carnivorous Giraffe) he's got to save his energy for when he needs it, if he doesn't score within the first 7 seconds of getting the ball, he has to slink off into the long grass to rest and patiently await more prey. Thinking about it futher, I can't really remember any of the (how many is it now five or six?) managers who we've had since Enrique has been here ever really giving him much praise (in public at least). He's not a premiership player but it's not his fault he was selected. If anyone deserved pantomime boos it was Nolan for nearly ruining someone's career and giving us a mountain to climb. I just don't like the negativity, especially when individual players are singled out. The abuse of Shola around me was constant and nonstop, it was boring apart from anything else.
