It's not long until it'll be the 30th anniversary of my first visit.

6 and a half years for me

Which was your first visit Stevie?

1-0 home win against Liverpool, George "Mavis" Riley, header at the Gallowgate.

you were about 12 months ahead of me. Mine was also at home against Liverpool (1st game of the season) but we lost 2-0. Rush scored both goals.

First match we had Greenalls on the shirts IIRC.

Aye Greenalls sign was green, a game which was featured the next day on The Big Match for 50 mins, it's amazing how much useless info I have in my head.

Was it not on that late night football programme that Tyne Tees used to do back then (hostest by that cunt Tames) before they did 'The Back Page'??

I remember the big hype of the Greenalls sponsorship. They sent out a bunch of lasses in the new kit about 15 minutes who each had a netbag of penny floaters with 'Greenalls' written on them. Supposed to be kicking them into the our fans, most of the lasses headed towards the leazes end and booting most of them in there. Aye...... we'd allowed the Liverpool fans to have the WHOLE leazes end. Clever lot :suicide:

God we were shite that season - but I loved it.... despite how pathetic we were, I was immediately hooked.

Im not sure I can remember my first game. I remember not being able to go to watch Norwich at home in the 80s when Beardo scored (a brace?) to turn the game on its head. My older bro was allowed but I had to listen on the radio. :suicide:

One of my first memories is David Hirst launching one in the stanchion when he scored a hattrick v us. Was a class act that man until he got a bad injury.

Anth Lormor in off the post in the first minute v West Ham also sticks out.

Pingels back header v Liverpool.

I remember that game vividly there was about 35000 there cos that was the game that we had to win in our relegation season and I think it was a bank holiday. Hirst didn't get a hattrick, someone called Dean Barrick scored with his first touch in league football was right in front of me and me da in the Leazes. Hirst's didn't hit the stanchion, hit the angle of post and bar amazin goal though, but Mirandinha's pen did stick in the stanchion. I remember Lormor's overhead kick against West Ham as well, that mathematically relegated us that defeat.

That Norwich game we won 4-1, was one of the best nights I'd had as a toon fan that, 1-0 down at half time, I remember Darren Jackson scoring, can't remember Peter playing like.

All my memories of games as a kid are with my Grandad at Northern League Games or Blyth games with my dad

Half of my football memories before I was 10, were at The Wheatsheaf watching Newcastle Blue Star, they were the second best team in the NL, behind Blyth, and used to regularly draw 1,500, shame they're so mickey mouse now.

God I remember all that... quite scary...

Also remember us playing West Ham at home that first season. Was live on the telly and we stuffed them 4-0. Neil McDonald, a couple from Andy Thomas and Darren Jackson (on his debut) scored for us. Goddard was playing against the club he recently left and had his head split open by George Parris just before half time and was replaced by Jacko.

Also think a certain Paul Ince came on as a sub for West Ham making his full debut.

Used to watch a lot of local football as a bairn - normally watching my Dad play (who was a good centre-half at that level) and I think I learned a lot about the game through that actually.

They are the richest club in the league, theyve got players on silly contracts whilst getting 70 fans through the gates. They will be up shit creek if the backer pulls out

Speaking of sponsors and logos, I always remember feeling aggrieved as a kid during those seasons when the logo didnt appear on our replica shirts as standard. Jesus wept tbh.

The old umbro one which you can get a copy of in the club shop (minus the umbro badge) was one of those wasn't it?

The V neck one, that we got promoted in aye. As was the slightly ameded roundy neck one that replaced it I think (the one minus the trim on the sleeves) - up to the roundy neck one with the sort of small overlayed square pattern on that replaced that. Basically up to the bar code one, which I think started getting sold with a Greenalls logo and then later the Blue Star.

The Blue star patches that people could buy to put over the old Greenalls logo were a fucking sight like!

I remember when we finally had the 'raised' Greenalls logo on the yellow away strip with the collar, rather than the screenprinty logos-felt like we'd arrived then (even though we were gash!)

Aye first kit that was sold to us with sponsorship on was the barcode one.

You could buy a 'Greenalls Beers' patch for the old V-neck one but fuck knows where you got them from. My mam god bless her soul managed to get me one for christmas one year. I bet she turned the fucking football world over trying to find it tbh.
