donaldstott 0
A damning insight in to life at toon. Amongst the points he has made... Very upset with current NUFC regime Felt they were happy to take the money and run No contact with regime from Liverpool game until 26th January There were a number of things the club could have done to make me stay Very unhappy with how the regime dealt with it Had stopped enjoying training Now training with a different class of players Felt he deserved better following the service he had given Fans were brilliant and he reiterated that repeatedly.... snakehips 0
I think this shows how deeply upset he is at 'having' to leave. By actually stating the ills of NUFC he is demonstrating things are really, really bad. Players don't usually bang on about their former club in such a poor way once they are at a new club. Yes, players might make an odd derogatory comment, but for someone as intelligent as Shay to openly answer questions specifically designed to put the boot into NUFC speaks volumes imo. Asprilla 96
If Man City have such great players then how come they're doing so shit? He should stfu. He walked. The end.

Guest alex
Tbf, we should probably see the quotes before commenting of specifics but the overall theme seems clear. I think it's good in a away someone who the fans will respect is prepared to blow the lid on what is going on behind the scenes. We deserve to know. donaldstott 0
Made me laugh that Bellaz was mentioned as helping him settle in. At NUFC Shay sat firmly in the Shearer/Carver camp..
Happy Face 29
It seems a very disrespectful comment to make to his former team mates / friends. IMO If Stevie Taylor was having a pop at me because I "haven't got the stomach for the fight", I'd name check him as indicative of the shite I had to train with. Like those rumours about players asking for meetings with Wise a few months ago. I believe Shay was the spokesperson.

TBF he didn't go as far as he could have or as far as I would have liked him to. The overiding theme that is screaming out is that there is mis-management going on from top to bottom, which is hardly surprising given that the lot of them are living 300 miles from the players. Greg 6
"I felt Newcastle could have dealt with it a little bit better, to be honest," "I spent nearly 12 years of my life there, and that's a long time. I want to thank the fans for the support they've given me over the years. They're absolutely phenomenal. "But this is a new challenge, and a new set of supporters to try and impress. "I'd been there nearly 12 years, and with the service I'd given the club, I felt the regime could have dealt with it a little better. "I was disappointed with the way the regime handled it. "It's a difficult time for Newcastle. They're going through a difficult period, and the fans deserve better. They're extremely loyal supporters up there. "They want the club to be firing up the league, and I wish them well. "The Liverpool game was a real kick in the teeth. It was a low point in my career, and a low point for everyone. "I wasn't very comfortable with the way the club was - I wanted to be challenging for silverware, but I didn't know if I was going to leave the club. "I'll be forever grateful for what (the fans) have done for me in my career, but I felt the regime were very unhelpful."

Happy Face 29
Have to say, reading it again, a lot of it sounds like he's just trying to ensure he gets a warm welcome whenever he's back in the area. If he was so keen to stay and he was waiting for them to do a couple of things to keep hold of him, and if, like he says, they were dead keen to sell him and get their mits on the cash, if all this was the case, why did he feel the need to put in a transfer request? Can't get my head round that. If that's the case though, he's kicking us when we're down, causing more strife and unrest when there's nothing anyone can do but get on with it and hope the unity is strong enough to keep us up this year. That kind of muck raking that smacks of self preservation isn't sitting well....and I never even blamed him for going.

Happy Face 29
Before I answer that - are you just being contrary again? I'm not contrary, I'm inquisitive. I genuinely can't make my mind up on this one. I agree with most of what he says, just think he seems at pains to go on about it and feather his nest. hagler 0
ive always wondered why more players dont speak out more about there former clubs...at least the ones who retire..it would give fans a real insight to how clubs are run..i agree shay could have told alot more...so he's been quite conservative realy.
