Gejon 2
The old Alan Smith we are all hoping for wasn't even that good. He was decent and looked to have some potential but was nowhere near as good as people seem to remember hence him playing in midfield a fair bit even at Leeds. He had a purple patch at Manchester United when he went on a decent run of scoring a goal every game but that was short lived and with the players in that team you are going to get a lot more chances. I need to have a little hope though so am praying someone has told him during his time away that forwards actually shoot and score goals so he can get over that fear that Ferguson obviously put into him to try and keep him disciplined enough to try and play in a DM role. Can't remember the game now but he was about 10-12 yards out and just needed to head it, but tried some kind of panicked overhead. Near goal the ball just seems to frighten him. Holden McGroin 6918
Carroll and Ameobi will offer more than Smith. He has been out all season and is rusty for a start. Give him a few games in the reserves. If he looks lively, then we can think about giving him a chance. How long is the Duke out for? We need his textbook end of season return VERY soon. In the meantime, i'd personally play Martins and Carroll up front - at least until Owen returns. Edited February 3, 2009 by Holden McGroin
