I hate just about every pundit going at the moment, its a mixture of the old guard, walking cliche machines with no insight into the modern game anymore and the likes of redknapp and (sadly) shearer who have nothing worth hearing to say and no personality to add to it

a big shakeup is needed across all the football showing networks (apart from maybe ESPN who seem alright) to get rid of these tiresome bores, watching MOTD is actually a grind now, couple of minutes of football highlights which people want to see mixed with almost an hour of "analysis" that makes me want to die rather than watch it

Shearer and Hanson appear to have visibly aged over the summer. I know the world cup was bad, but even so...

I'm convinced that Hansen is trying to see how much shite he can get away with saying, or in some cases, how little he can say and have it be passed off as analysis.

Arsenal now have 1 fit center back

koscielny is back out so theyve got 2, hes been lucky really

"lads in the studio" talking absolute bollocks about coles nature and "to the letter of the law its a sending off"

its not because its the letter of the law that coles been sent off, its because it was a fucking shoddy, dangerous tackle

Wasnt that bad.

Switched over and saw Cole get the red and really hoped it was as much of a mistake as his cheat loving mates were making out - it wasn't - the apologies were fucking sickening.

18 months ago they basically said Barton deserved a red for his tackle on Alonso just because he is Joey Barton - now Cole deserves a let-off because he's a nice, cheeky cockney chap.

I fucking hate them all.

As a side note I caught a reporter on SSN yesterday - I thing it was that fuckwit Craig - saying how Cole was taking Dalglish's number 10 shirt - proving once again that "Sky era wanker" refers just as much to all their staff as it does to too many fans.

There's a good debate about whether it was or wasn't a red card - the issue is that Wilshire only got a yellow for an almost identical challenge 10 mins earlier. Consistently is the big issue here

Looked like a decent decision by the ref to give a red, but not the worst i've seen, it wasn't a full on launching yourself off the ground completely to land on somebody's leg with both feet type challenge, the sort Gerrard has specialised in over his career.

And the other sending off was harsh to say it was deliberate hand ball, and made worse because they'd let Ngog off with what was a completely deliberate one earlier.

It wasnt two footed, it was his trailing leg that gave the arsenal lad a 'bump'.

it had scissored round by the time it was bumping him, trapping koscielnys leg between both of coles

looking at the area it was in it was unnecessary anyway, then you've got the fact that, for a "block" he was strangely close to koscielny, close enough to him to be wrapping his legs around his standing, back leg, steaming in like that and then scissoring the leg as he did LK is lucky hes not out for a long time after that challenge

how anyone can defend it is beyond me it was disgusting listening to the "pundits" at half time talking about how he shouldnt have been sent off

Just watched it again on MOTD2, it was soft as fuck man - should have been a yellow. Never should have been a red in a month of Sundays.

Just seen Cole's tackle.

Whether it deserved a red or not is one thing, but it was at least as bad as the one the Kop got Barton sent off for 18 months ago, so fuck the scousers quite frankly.

Disagree. When this one made contact it was at ground level. Barton's was around the knee.

Didn't help that he launched into it on the back of a 10-yard sprint and lunge. I'm not saying that makes it more of a foul, but it makes the ref so much more likely to give it.

He had a bit of a lunge at CR a couple of seasons ago.

makes it more dangerous and less controlled, which does make it more of a red really "dangerous play" and all that

love blackpools shirts with "WONGA" written on them

Still disappointed Harewood's doesn't say "GOOMBA".

a bit of photoshopping could arrange that surely

Rubbish! You can sprint 10 yards and still make a decent challenge that isn't dangerous or uncontrolled. Cole's challenge was a foul and was worthy of a card. But it wasn't a red - we'd have been livid if that had happened to us.

If I've interpreted it correctly, Meenzer's point was that the sprint made it look worse to the referee than it actually was - that I can agree with.
