It's within the laws of the game. I can't see a rule that says you are not allowed to put yourself in a position where you get booked. The ref was clearly totally oblivious to what was going on, as well as the cheering seals in the Ajax end.

It happened in Germany ages ago. A player (called Frank Ordenewitz) had been booked in the cup semi final. As it was his second booking during the cup competition it meant he would have missed the cup final. Though receiving a red card meant he would be banned immidiately and instead miss a league game. He asked his manager (Rutemöller) who said Ordenewitz should try and do it, i.e. getting a red card. Ordenewitz then collected a red card later in the game for kicking the ball away after the referee had interrupted the game. His manager admitted it being a deliberate red card straight after the game in an interview. Ordenewitz got banned for the cup final because of it.

If we ever play like Rangers I will stop going to watch the toon. They are the most borin team in world football they needed a win and played for a draw. All this Rangers played well bollocks. They literally played 5 5 0 that was their formation horrible anti football cunts, with fans who are scum although when all 50000 of them were singin "yae cidnae score in a brothel" to Rooney it sounded pretty good.

 

People might say they had a go last year in the CL and lost 4-0 twice at home, but I'm sorry like but that's not football, when they were attacking there was two of them and that's it. In fact other than set pieces its difficult to recall a time when more than four or five of them were in Man Utd's half at the same time. Pleased Man Utd won for football as well as me bet. I agree with most of that. Football is supposed to be a form of entertainment. A release from our day-to-day lives. Watching a team not prepared to even attack (especially at home) is a joke.

Granted. I can see both sides of the coin. However, if I am paying £40-50 for a ticket and watching my team not trying to win a game then it wouldnt be long before I stopped going.

Agreed. I think fans would put up with 'clogging' for a season or two if it brought success(be it promotion/avoiding relegation/winning a trophy), but entertainment has to come into it at some point.

Pulis' [and Fat Sam fits the bill as well] football philosophy is counterproductive to the efforts being layed out by their respective youth academies, it pretty much unravels the good work of the coaches at the grassroots level. The gulf between the technique based methodology employed at Academy/youth level, and what you see dished out on the pitch by each manager [Pulis & Fat Sam], is too great and in layman's terms it must be something of a culture shock for any talent youngster coming their respective ranks.

There's some good points in there.

 

One thing I'll say about the PL this season, is that if you try and play football against the top teams, you seem more likely to pick up points. If you tried that as little as two seasons ago, you'd have walked away with a 5 goal trashing. Look at how Wolves(vs City),WBA(vs Arsenal/Manutd), us(vs Arsenal) have done against the top teams this season. Even with Wolves losing(unluckily against Chelsea and others) - they had a go and worried teams. Now, it can still catch you out-Blackpool went to 10men early against Arsenal and got thumped(6-0?), but there seems to be a conscious attempt to try and play the ball on the deck and have a go at them. I'm not entirely sure how the top teams are more vulnerable to this as they technically should be able to murder teams and play their way around them. Maybe ManUtd/Chelsea are losing their legs a bit in midfield. Anyone got anything to add to that?

 

It's also probably a reflection on the standard of players being brought through the youth systems. Such emphasis is put on results that techinically gifted youngsters have no place in most of the teams in the Premier League where maybe only 6-7 teams try and play football on the deck instead of maximising opportunities or whatever the fuck Allardyce calls it.

 

Also, a note on Pulis who seems to have had a game plan regarding having a team of bruisers to establish themselves in the top flight. They were brutal to watch at times, but he seems to be trying to change their style over time, with the introductions of Gudjohnson, Tuncay and Pennant.

I think Pulis has said that, but in reality actually hasn't changed much at all. Gudjohnsen never plays & looks a fish out of water in their current tactics. Tuncay is rarely used from the start either.

He looks overweight and slow now. People forget how quick he used to be, remember that goal about 2002 when we lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea, he gave Andy O'Brien a five yard start from the half way line, and was five yards ahead of him by the time he put the ball in the Gallowgate net. But...I'd have him in midfield ahead of Smith.
