khay 10
Anyone know where to start with connecting to laptops up and sharing the DVD drive? Brother has got one of those netbooks with XP on it but it does not have a CD/DVD Drive. So he needs to connect to another one to use the drive to install some software. 3bitbob 0
Has the laptop got a USB port? If so make an image of the sofware onto a USB stick / Drive and install from there or Connect the 2 laptops to a local network (router) and share the DVD drive. Simply map a network drive to the shared DVD and install the software.
Craig 6700
using the router to create a LAN connection between the two is the best bet and then simply share the DVD drive from one to the other. If you share the drive as "D$" then to connect to it from the other machine, you simply need to open a command prompt and type: \\computername\d$ and hit OK. (where computername is the name of the machine with the DVD installed.)
Fop 1
Just get a crossover cable, they are pretty cheap.
Craig 6700
Just get a crossover cable, they are pretty cheap. That's the alternative but he'll still have to share the DVD. If he has a router, there's no need for him to buy a crossover cable.
khay 10
Yes, it was a easy. With two Vista machines. Will it be easy enough with Vista to XP though. All though i think its a problem with his USB device instead, but I'll find out. Edited January 25, 2009 by khay
