Given signs for Man City

I don't blame him for going now. The offer to go to City is there now, he's put up with us being shite for a canny few years, and he, like all of us, is fucking sick of NUFC at the minute. Unlike us, he has the option to do something about it.

Likewise, I won't be saying a bad word about him. He's held us together for years, its us that owes him this move imo rather than him owing anything to us. Would rather he signed for someone half decent though.

I don't blame him for going either but he can still fuck off.

Oh aye definitely. I'm not one of these idiots, all misty-eyed going "Bye Shay, hope you get the trophies you deserve at City". I hope he wins fuck all.

Been a great servant for the club, I think it speaks volumes that for years Shay has come out and publicly spoken about how the club needs to match his ambition yet following his comments has stayed at the club. I would imagine that this has been due to the manager outlining his ambitions, and Shay seeing signings come to the club which could improve the team. Probably for only the 2nd time in his tenure at Newcastle he has felt like the club isnt going in the right direction.

Ive got no grudge against him for wanting to leave now. It is a sinking ship.

Not that much of a stretch when hes asking to leave when we are in our worst position since he joined the club

Agreed, its not loyalty when the team are doing ok and we seem to be heading in the right direction, loyalty is when your backs to the fucking wall and you've no way out, if he had stood his ground, that would of been loyal, but hes engineered a move away

fuck him!

lol when were we doing ok again? seems a distant memory that.

sorry but a lot of fickle lads on here "if only he waited till summer!".... 2days of the window left and we've signed who again oh aye kevin nolan, the club are really trying to bail the team out of the shitty water were sitting in now...

the vast majority of you wanted rid of him last summer, and the club apparently knocked back approaches and all.

no doubt he's had the "look if you'll stay, were going to be doing this and bringing in these people"

to which shay/whoever else wants out has said "who the fuck are they?" asides from the fact they wouldn't be signed anyways.

sorry this has been long coming and with the manager making a weekly tool of himself in the press, the total lack of backing from the owner and board and results going against us and down at the bottom of the table

why would anyone want to stay, least he's not running his contract down to go on a free at the end of the season

If he was out of contract in the summer I suspect that's exactly what he would have done.

aye its a distant memory alright, but these posters who wish him all the best and say he deserves a move away? wtf!! he's been paid very well by this club and now that we are in the shit big time he engineers a move away in the winter window?

Thats not loyal in any way shape or form, yes he's been a fine servant of the club but he's still dropped us in the shit and i hope he wins fuck all elsewhere

As to running their contract down? I would rather someone hung around to help us maintain PL status for next season and then leave on a free transfer, than sounding off in the press, have his agent act like a cunt and then engineer a move away whilst we are on shit row half way through the season...

If memory serves me correctly, didn't Given submit a transfer request when Sir Bobby was in charge after Harper had a run in the starting XI ?

Yes he did, wasn't this around the time that Shay was injuried and Harper stepped in and proved he was more than able to be a worthy steward, shay handed in a transfer request as he wanted first team football....?

Something along those lines, it kind of takes a shine off the loyalty comments people have made about Given, it's a shame he's not as loyal as Harper.

I don't think he's ever been very loyal. typical modern day footballer tbh.

We have an able deputy in harper ( who is a better keeper than most of the other english keepers in the premiership (thinking robertson, carson and a few others)and the young keepers all seem to be good-ish.

lol he's not as loyal as harper heard it all now, someones loyal because they are happy to scratch themselves picking up thousands for sitting on a bench and happy not to be playing, thats not loyality thats laziness or lack of ambition.

less than 100 games since joining in 93 and he's the pinnacle of being loyal because he was neither good enough to get a 1st team spot off his own merit or had that many inquiries about him, until recently when he was going be cheap due to not signing his contract (when did he sign it oh aye when shay was basically leaving..)

you can fucking bet if shay wasn't going loyal harper would be off cheaply or on a free.

I'll remember this when the Owen thread appears in the summer

and we were in shit row over a year ago, fuck all changed infact it got worse, so now players have finally had enough

ok, but don't fucking call him loyal just because we are shit, he has handed in more transfer requests than Insmonia (3 I believe, where as Insmonia has tried to engineer his move away twice) As to Owen, he's crocked again, but I would rather he ran his contract down if he helped us stay in the premiership, then he can wander on his merry away and jobs done, Given, different kettle of fish, he could leave in the summer after helping us stay up, but oh no, he engineered his move in the Jan window, that really is a complete lack of loyalty

Given will have had plenty of offers from teams with a much better reputation than Man City over the years. He's been here 11 years and at times he hasn't been happy with playing second fiddle to Harper, but no player should be happy just sitting on the bench.

Harper is in his comfort zone, he would have signed an extension even if Given stayed.

No difference now between Given leaving us at an awkward time, and "King" Kev doing the same.

Ant, take your Irish blinkers off, Given is walking out on us during our darkest hour, that is the simple truth.

has fuck all to do with him being irish, i hated Carr and O'Brien and duff is massively overpaid and lost his spark ever since his last injury at Chelsea

he's leaving because nothing at the club has been dealt with in years and it's finally hit the point where it's nearly pointless turning out everyweek because his position is untenable, no matter how good a player shay or owen/martins etc are, and no matter how well the stars peform they are let down due to the lack of quality throughout the team and the ability to cope with injuries, were just likely to lose.

fuck sake we can't even beat hull

I agree, he has been with us for 10+ years now and has been through a lot. Why would he not be allowed to walk out on us? he has served his time and to be honest imagine yourself in his position! Week in, week out trying to stop goals with a defence that is appalling! I for one do not begrudge him a move away from us during this transfer window. I said to my mates during the Liverpool game that he did not look happy and would move during the transfer window. I dont know what you classify as a loyal player these days but i know for one that Shay and Steve have been more then loyal players to us for the past 10 years. I dont give a fuck how many transfer requests Shay has put in! He has still come out, week after week and put in and saved us plenty of points. As i have said previously, he bleeds black and white and will come back in the future as a coach.

Self fulfilling prophecy when you bail out though.

I hope the fat man manages to fix things and we get a few decent players in over the next year or two on sensible money. Honestly it's like some people almost want us to fail to prove how wrong Ashley is.

So much so that he leaves us when the going got tough.

So what about Shearer saying that he wouldnt take the job on in the clubs current state? Helping us in our hour of need or just preserving his legend status wihtout embarassing himself if it all goes pear shaped.

Because, unlike kinnear, Shearer does not need the money. Why would anybody take the job and set himself up so cunts on forums could turn around and point the finger at him when it all goes tits up. He's not an idiot and knows he couldn't work with the cockneys. Nobody with any integrity can IMO.
