Mort sacked SA cause he asked for more cash and iirc was whinning at the poor/untried players he was having to deal with.

Where do you get that from. Personally I have no recollection of that having been the case at the time.

EDIT: Why would you sack someone and incur a huge payout on their contract because they asked for more money, when you could just say "no" and let him resign?

I'm surprised you're so poorly informed.

The argument that lead to his sacking was about needing to spend that Jan, while Mort had one eye on the books.

He accepted Enrique, Cacapa and Rosy, but at the time expressed doubts about all of them.

I think it's one of your patented flights of fancy stated as fact. <_<

I think that the only reason Allardyce was allowed to bring in his own players was because we hadn't yet got our amazing scouting / DOF system up and running at the time.

He moaned a few times about the lack of money though and that is my point.

The scouting system has had partial success.

The missing piece was an experienced general manager with football experience.

The alpha male being the owner is half the problems.

On the first team side, has it been any more successful than a decent manager would have been bringing in his own players? It's hard to say.

I thought Allardyce made noises about a lack of funds. Maybe not in those exact words. He suggested that was the case in the summer before last anyway, even if he didn't in January. I can't be arsed to find the quotes either btw <_<

He mentioned how his summer signings weren't his first choices back in November...

"I was after [Mikaël] Silvestre, [sylvain] Distin and Tal Ben Haim, " he said. "Once your first targets have gone, you look elsewhere. Your only option is to look at what's available in the foreign markets. These are good players, but they're finding it difficult to play in the Premier League on a regular basis. All the other Premier League clubs are spending heavily, more than ever before, and that increases the quality in the division. You have to try to live with that."

Months after the window in which he'd spent over £20M had closed and the team had lost 3 out of 4, drawing one and conceding 10 I might add. Not that he'd have been making excuses.

At least Keegan and Kinnear had the good sense to apportion blame while they were being shafted.
