Happy Face 29
I think he's paid off whatever debt he has, because it'll cost him/the club money to finance the debt. I guess whatever debt is outstanding is future payments on players, which aren't accruing interest but have set installments. The 'fun' of owning the club probably lost whatever appeal it might have once held back in Septemper. Ironic really, Keegan is probably unique as a manager that COULD have taken THIS club forward on a limited budget.....if he was left to allocate that budget himself. Anyway, gone over it time and time again. Basically Ashley doesn't know how to run a club, whether for profit or trophies.

peasepud 59
hasn't he just loaned the club the debt money? Ie we now owe mike Ashley instead of barclays? If so, is he charging us interest?

Ketsbaia 0
It baffles me as to why Ashley is such a misery bastard when it comes to this club. Let us remember he is a self described 'betting man' who spunked hundreds of millions of pounds up the wall on HBOS shares, flying to New York for a piss up and throwing money away in Llambias' casino. He's clearly not a skin flint so i've no idea what he's playing at I'm actually beginning to believe he wants this club to go down. There is no logical explanation for the lack of activity on his part. JFK can fuck off too. I don't think his quotes are in any way a subtle dig at those upstairs, he's not bright enough for that. He's clearly passing the blame onto those before him to try and keep MA & co. sweet. New contract here he comes!
Happy Face 29
I'm actually beginning to believe he wants this club to go down. There is no logical explanation for the lack of activity on his part. He likes to chase success on the cheap. Have you been to one of his shops? Fucking tat. Soon as he bought the club there were plain fruit of the loom T-shirts going for a fiver in the club shop with shitty screen printed graphics on them. Proper harry ramp. It's more logical than thinking he bought us to detroy us like some kind of Dr Evil Spurs fan unphased by the personal cost of having us relegated. justin sane 0
Joe Kinnear believes Newcastle will retain their Premier League status despite their weekend defeat by Blackburn. Saturday's 3-0 loss to former Toon boss Sam Allardyce's side has left the Magpies just two points clear of third-from-bottom Middlesbrough. Newcastle have now collected just one point from a possible 12, but ex-Forest boss Kinnear is not overly worried by their current plight. "Yes, I think we can see light at the end of the tunnel," said Kinnear. "I'm an optimist. "Once we get two or three players back fully fit, really fully fit, I think we'll be all right, I really do. "I know everyone else will be saying something different. Only time will tell, but I'm very confident we will stay up. Very confident." Kinnear has bemoaned the club's lengthy injury list, stating that being without the likes of Claudio Cacapa, Shola Ameobi, Obafemi Martins, Habib Beye and Alan Smith has cost them dearly. "I've just been riddled with injuries for the past six weeks. I haven't picked the same team back-to-back since I've been here," he continued. "And the gaps in the squad mean it's players patched up or the youth teams. I'm not having a knock at the previous managers, but whoever did their homework on the squad needs to take a long look at it because we haven't got any back-ups. "You would think a club of this size would be doubled up in every position. We're not, we're miles away from it, miles." If Kinnear had done his homework he'd know that the previous managers were fully aware of that fact but got bugger all backing to correct it As a couple of us have said, if you read between the lines, that's probably what he's getting at without actually criticising anyone at the club by saying "my chairman's incompetent and has a history of incompetence spanning several managers, not just me". Thats fair enough you may be right but then to say i might spend all my money on one player is just fucking crazy.

In 2006 the club had £16.7M of net assets (land + players etc. minus debts), that was down from £56.1M in 1998... http://www.nufc-finances.org.uk/ I think the only land would be the stadium and academy, but I'm happy to be set right. Norbert Colon 0
No point panicking yet - we outplayed blackburn for alot of the game just didn't go our way due to a dodgy penalty decision and they got some momentum after that - we are going through our bad patch - it'll pick up - joe is right - its not his fault and he is having a go at the owner - rightly so - but the slagging he gets on here is shocking - clueless? he has been in the game longer than most of you have been alive man - get a grip ffs There's some people who sit near me at the match who've been going longer than I've been alive and they're clueless as well. I think that while he is not to blame for the situation at the club he is quite clearly nowhere near the quality of manager we should be trying to attract and now he's been offered a new deal. That's where the anger comes from. His four years out of the game speaks volumes (something else he's felt the need to lie about btw). Whilst i agree with your overall sentiment in that I don't think it is the progressive long term appointment we were all hoping for and an extension to his contract is very disappointing i just think that the negative slating that he gets on here is sometimes a bit much - he may be Ashleys puppet and talk shite - yes i agree - but to disregard his entire career as an irrelevance (not you, just in general) just reinforces the stereotype that everyone outside the club have of our fans

Or if thats not enough then the disgraceful way he handles any kind of contact with press or officials. Then of course theres the blatant and downright lies. I agree with you in the main anyway about how he'll know a canny bit about the game and so on. And it's not his mess either really. I said earlier in the thread it's not really his fault. Regarding those outside NUFC though, I wonder how many of them would have been happy with Kinnear taking over as manager of their club.

That would explain the queue of clubs banging on his door for the last 4 years. A man of his experience and knowledge should have been able to get the job at any First Division club yet strangely he didnt even get offered lower clubs than that. Guest alex
It's a worry whichever way you look at this because he's either utterly stupid if he thinks the squad size is something the previous two managers didn't try to address or (more likely) the only way he can try to push the board into action is by thinly-veiled press statements like this. This is from the Newcastle United PLC annual report 2005. Not sure what has happend with this since then but the casino bit sounds right up Ashleys street. Joint Venture with MGMMIRAGE. Newcastle United Plc has a joint venture with MGMMIRAGE to develop the area above St.James' metro station subject to certain matters. Newcastle upon Tyne must be designated as the appropriate place for a regional casino; the joint venture project must be selected as the appropriate site, and all applicable planing and licensing consents must be obtained. The proposed project would comprise a major mixed-use development including the regional casino.
