Scottish Mag 3
NEWCASTLE United are attempting to bring France-based duo Stephane Mbia and Albin Ebondo to St James's Park. The Gazette understands executive director (football) Dennis Wise is in talks with the pair's clubs amid a deepening injury crisis on Tyneside, which has now claimed a dozen senior players. Kinnear – who is still hopeful of securing funds from owner Mike Ashley, having initially been told any money for transfers will have to be generated by sales – was today tight-lipped about the identities of his targets. But sources in France claim Wise is attempting to bring £10m-rated Stade Rennais midfielder Mbia on loan, while at the same time pursuing a deal for right-back Ebondo. "What I've got is options for the directors and board to look at," Kinnear told the Gazette. "I've given them a list of players and loan fees, and the possibility of maybe buying one or two. At the moment it's tight, but I'm waiting to hear whether one player moves." Mbia has told Stade Rennais he wants to quit France for England, with Everton also understood to be interested in signing him in this month's transfer window. The 22-year-old said: "Everyone knows there are clubs after me, but Rennes did not want to let me go. "Rennes are looking to improve my pay, but everyone knows I want to move to the Premier League to improve myself and play in the biggest league in the world." Marseille-born Ebondo, meanwhile, is under contract at Toulouse until the summer of 2010. United are looking to prise him away to provide cover for injured full-back Habib Beye, expected to be sidelined for 10 weeks with an ankle injury. Scottish Mag 3
Newcastle have tabled a £5million approach for Rennes midfielder Stephane Mbia. Magpies boss Joe Kinnear has made no secret of his admiration for the Cameroon international and revealed on Wednesday that discussions regarding a possible deal had reached an advanced stage. It has now emerged that a sizeable offer has been made for the African ace, with Newcastle keen to push the deal through as soon as possible. "We put a bid in for Stephane Mbia earlier in the week with an offer of £5million, that is a permanent deal," Kinnear told the Evening Chronicle. "He's a fantastic player." Newcastle are also waiting to hear back from West Ham full-back Lucas Neill as Kinnear looks to make headway in the transfer market. "We have spoke to him, we are waiting to hear what the answer is from West Ham," added the Magpies boss. "All I can say is it is seriously ongoing." Kinnear remains optimistic that new recruits are imminent and is hoping to have added fresh faces to his squad by the time Newcastle travel to Ewood Park on Saturday. He said: "We'd love to have them in for the Blackburn game. "We wouldn't want to leave it any later. "We'd like to bring back in injured players and fresh faces. "We've identified the players we want."
sniffer 0
He'd be better off getting Bullard for about 4 mill because he can help us straight away. No doubt these foreigners will need a sesaon to show they are totally worthless and by then we'll be down and out.
ewerk 30160
Clearly Fulham aren't prepared to let Bullard go for any less than £6m though.
sniffer 0
I might be wrong but I thought he was out of contract in the summer so I'd think they'd want something back and I'd bet it is less than 6 mill given that he's 30 at the end of the day. JaMoUsE 0
Given the choice of players being talked about- Gomes M'Bia Ebondo Neill Which 2 would you bring in? I think hes after Neill,M'Bia and Gomes and if Gomes does come in surely thats too replace Owen at the end of the year? If i had to choose 2 of those for this window i would take M'Bia and Ebondo - purely becuase i hate Neill and think the money he is on is scandalous Edited January 15, 2009 by JaMoUsE

Andrew Flintoff 0
All the comments on lequipe.fr (French football site) are essentially laughing at us - saying £4m is ridiculous, he's worth 3x that and he'll be playing in the CL next season and would never sign for us. Great.
Craig 6670
Newcastle launch bid for West Ham's Lucas NeillThursday, January 15, 2009 Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear has confirmed he is in talks to sign West Ham defender Lucas Neil. The Magpies have also lodged a £5million bid for Rennes midfielder Stephane Mbia. Kinnear has turned to Neill, 30, as he attempts to cover for the loss of Habib Beye to an ankle injury. The Newcastle boss said: 'We have spoken to his agent and it is ongoing at the moment, we are just waiting to see. We could get an answer at any time.' Turning his attentions to Mbia, a 22-year-old Cameroon international, he added: 'We have put a bid in writing for Stephane Mbia and we are waiting to hear from his club. 'We have put a bid in of £5m and we are waiting to see what the outcome of that is.' Kinnear claimed last night that the club had made two £4m offers for unnamed players. With his interest in Toulouse defender Albin Ebondo having apparently cooled, it is understood St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis could now be in his sights. Meanwhile, Geremi and his representatives are still in talks over a proposed move to Turkish club Besiktas which could further boost Newcastle's transfer kitty. KingKev 0
I'm just reading through some french forums. On a Rennes message board they say they already have rejected an offer for Mbia earlier this season - 15m Euro from ZSKA. Can't see why they should accept our offer then...
