peasepud 59
JOE Kinnear says his players can run out at St James's Park with their "heads held high" – despite having been thrashed on their last home appearance.Newcastle United were beaten 5-1 by Liverpool a fortnight ago, and had it not been for the form of goalkeeper Shay Given, the Premier League leaders could have got into double figures. But Kinnear believes his injury-hit team restored some pride away to Hull City last Saturday, when they held Phil Brown's side to a goalless draw in an FA Cup third round tie, and he claims confidence remains high in his camp, despite problems on and off the field. "We can go into the West Ham game with our heads up, regardless of the injury problems," said Kinnear. "We defended very well as a team at Hull, and I was pleased with our back four, especially after the 5-1 loss against Liverpool. "We didn't feel sorry four ourselves at Hull and we picked up our fourth clean sheet in five games away from home. "Confidence is up despite all of the setbacks – so we're looking to take that into the West Ham game." Words fail me, they really do.

snakehips 0
"we defended well against HULL" is what depresses me about this latest statement.
Guest stormrider
Well... Not defending JFK at all, but there is nothing else he can say or do rather than try to keep our abysmal team in a bit of self confidence.

It's not about that imo. That's what he's doing (or should be doing) behind closed doors as it were. It's about him trying to say a 0-0 draw away to a Hull side in an abysmal run of form has restored the dent to the pride received by getting absolutely fucking mullered at home off Liverpool. Which, is the only possible thing to try in order to lift the players' confidence up. Not that it's going to work!

How can it work when we look at bbc etc and see frustrated players wanting out and no concrete evidence to suggest players coming in
