JawD 99
I hope that everybody involved in taking this decision and making it happen dies a slow and painful death and very soon. Sad thing is, this time next year Shola could look a valuable member of the squad..... And I dont mean that he might improve that much....
Tom 14011
Right now Shola is a valuable member of the squad. Owen vunerable to injury, Martins out, Viduka out, Xisco!?, Carroll is unproven. Besides Shola has done ok. 3 goals and 3 assists, On the goal front that's as many as... Alves, Berbatov, Deco, Fellaini, Heskey, Pavlyuchenko & Santa Cruz etc. So he may appear to be totally useless but he's not and right now Premiership proven (or otherwise) strikers are hardly queuing up to join us... QFT TBH now now, dont confuse skill with being a striker and therefore being at odds to luckily swipe a goal in now or then, since hes basically right infront of the goal. Guest alex
Isn't being in the right place at the right time part of the striker's craft? Piss-taking aside, Tom has a point. It's depressing since we know Shola's not very good but he's nowhere near as shit as is often suggested. I'd stick him in ahead of Smith, Carroll and Xisco. I realise they aren't exactly world-beaters btw.

Agreed, I don't think that Shola has a great striker's instinct, quite often he's just very lucky but at the moment I'll take that.

Completely true, but in a slightly less than silly world (such as NUFC currently inhabit) would Shola be a 3rd or even 4th choice striker for us? (I think he's always got too much stick, but even so I'm amazed at how many times he's dodged the bullet here). What is worrying though is that next season (or even after Jan if things go really bad) Shola may NOT be 3rd or 4th choice......
trophyshy 7066
When he's shite it's fucking abysmal and embarrassing though. That's where the groans are coming from.
Guest alex
I think that while I agree with Tom, him getting a new 3 year deal is depressing when you hear about the players that supposedly want to leave. It should have been a case of good bye and good luck, like with Bramble come this summer. But the state we're in means he's not just an important squad player now but could well be next season and beyond.
justin sane 0
If they gave him the contract with the intention of selling him in the summer then great. The sad truth is we will need him for the rest of the season. If the idea is to build a team,of similar quality and mindset, around him then we are fucked. Isegrim 9677
We couldn't sell him when his contract was running out and he was clearly not wanted, so offering him a new one doesn't make his overdue exit any more likely. It's just a sign of the sad state of the team when you have to consider Ameobi as a valuable member of the first team tbh.
Papa Lazaru 0
As people have said, its sad but true that he could likely be a needed squad member this season and beyond. Because Viduka is finished, they'll peddle Xisco to Spain for a big loss most likely, Owen is likely to leave unless he's insane and Martins might want to join him! Lose that many strikers and i'm afraid we need Shola, scary as that may be!

Their doesn't appear to be a plan regarding anything apart from utter bollocks from Kinnear and statements from Ashley which everyday grow more fruitless. It's seems a lot of players want to leave, no decent ones will want to come and I'm not sure if the funds would be commissioned even if they did, we are in footballing limbo. Sink or Swim.
