Kinnear waits for trasnfer talks

Joe Kinnear is eager to discuss his January transfer plans with Mike Ashley following the Newcastle United owner's decision to take the club off the market.

 

Ashley revealed before Sunday's 5-1 home defeat by Liverpool that he is no longer looking to offload the Magpies, who had been up for sale since September.

 

Newcastle boss Kinnear, who is under contract until the end of the season, has welcomed Ashley's decision to hang onto the club.

 

And Kinnear is now keen to find out how much money he will have to spend when the transfer window opens as he looks to improve his squad.

Positive move

 

"It is a positive move," said Kinnear. "He wants to look forward and what we are going to do now is sit down and see where we can strengthen the side and see what sort of money is available.

 

"That hasn't been made quite clear yet, but there will be money available, for sure.

 

"We have suggested players to Mike that I would like and now it's really wait and see what price they are.

 

"(Executive director (football)) Dennis Wise and the rest of the people are finding out just what the prices are.

 

"I'm happy that Mike has made the decision to stay. I'd like to think the Newcastle fans will allow him to return to St James' Park and watch his club."
