Digital photo album software

My dad's started using Abode Photoshop which looks pretty handy - it collects all the photos on your computer, puts them in by date taken and allows you to tag them all so you can easily bring up photos by location, person or anything else you might want to get to. I was thinking of getting the same programme but before I go and set up all my photos in it, I was wondering if anyone had any bad experience with this or if anyone knew of a better (hopefully free) programme that did a similar thing.

TIA TBH.

I've got a hooky version of LightRoom which is good.

Agreed, for cataloguing catalouging keeping track of your images then Lightroom pisses on the rest. To be honest I hadnt realised you could do those things in Photoshop though.

I think it's Adobe Bridge that does it rather than Photoshop itself.
