Anth 113
Zavvi going under! At this rate, by the end of next year Northumberland St will be full of empty retail units!
Guest alex
Last time I was in one (Belfast rather than the Town) there was literally nothing in there I wanted to spend my money on. It's barely even a record shop these days. These lot saw off most of the decent independent shops and now Amazon et al have done it to them I suppose. Yeah, I alwatys thought these lot and HMV were on borrowed time. You can get DVD's and stuff much cheaper online. And they are also up against the illegal downloaders

Kid Dynamite 6961
And therein lies the problem. People would rather sit in the house and order it online with 2 day 'quick' postage. Or you can hop on a bus and have it in your hand in half an hour. We are going to be a nation of fat bastards in no time at all and each town centre is going to consist of one ginormous Tescos that sells everything

Ayatollah Hermione 13760
You want to head down Woolies, man. It's going fucking mental down there; they're even selling the office furniture. Nearly got meself a safe and those ropes/poles they use for queues. Would have set me back about £400 but it was hard to pass up. Got a Motown compilation for 50p as well so you can't really complain.

Tom 14011
I haven't bought a CD in a year or so, I used to buy 2 a week. I think Radioheads tactic is the future, £2.50 I paid for In Rainbows, directly to the artist too.

Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
I wonder if Borders is far behind? The amount of stock they carry is phenomenal, probably an out-moded business model now.

Or you can hop on a bus and find out they don't have it in stock. FYP LOL ETC. But seriously, this is the problem I invariably have (even with Oxford Street sometimes). Was on Northumberland Street today with some parental money to burn and, between HMV and Zavvi, I literally found one of the dozen or so CDs I had on my list (and I'd have had to queue up for god knows how long to pay even if I had found what I wanted). I know a big butch lesbian who's a postwoman, just to confirm the stereotype. At my old work building we were on the 1st floor and the postman was massive, there was no lift and he was always dripping with sweat and having a borderline asthma attack by the time he reached us, absolutely minging. And I rarely have the time to pop into town to actually buy overpriced things in store that way. Although don't let that knock you off your high horse though. Tbh there's always plenty of people bizzing around town hunting for a bargain everytime I drive through, it's too much of a pain in the arse to stop, get parked and fanny around in queues to shop in town - online shopping is usually cheaper and less stressful. The Fish 10660
It's cracker's I know it makes no sense and it's immaterial, but I hate shopping in Zavvi. The Store is tacky adn shit, the staff are dead behind the eyes and the customers are at the scummier end of the gene pool. I only go in now and then and regret it whenever I do, because I feel like a sexual abuse victim on leaving. I need to scurry off to a shower and brillo padd my skin raw, crying and murmuring "unclean" to myself until my voice runs hoarse. HMV (objectively) can't be any different, but for whatever reason I can tolerate that place. I think this, as much as anything else, is why I acquire my music and movies online. I fucking hate people.
