Is that fact? It's more of an Arab thing actually. The reasoning is that shoes step on dirt, and so pointing your shoe's sole at someone implies they are dirt. It also has religious significance - during the haj, pilgrims throw shoes and stones at a stone pillar that symbolises Satan. Brilliant duck by Bush, I'll give him that much.
